  2. 1. What are icons, and why was their use controversial? • Icons were images of Jesus, Mary, and the Saints. Some Byzantines thought they were more like Idols than Icons. Icons are images and Idols are worshipped.

Why do you think the Basilian and Benedictine Rules were put in place for monks • These Basilianand Benedictine rules were put in place to make sure the monks and nuns lived a wholesome life with out temptation. By not allowing temptation in your life one will find enlightenment. These men and women were able to become important players in that day and age. In conclusion Monks and Nuns lives became extraordinary and by following the rules of living simply and with prayer they will be fulfilled .
