  2. Questions #1 • Suppose you are going to begin a scientific investigation. What should be one of the first things everyone in your group should do?

  3. Questions #2 • Imagine this is your group’s lab area. What is wrong here? • What might happen if your lab group had such a cluttered lab area?

  13. Dissection Safety • Wear goggles, apron, and gloves when dissection • Specimens are soaked in a formalin solution that contains a very small percentage of formaldehyde. Be careful. • Never ingest specimen part or remove them from the classroom

  14. Dissection Safety • Sharp instruments such as scissors and scalpels will be used to cut tissue. When working with sharp instruments always: • Carry the instrument with the tip facing down and away from your body • Cut away from your body, never toward you • Only grasp sharp instruments by the handle

  15. Dissection Safety • Dispose of the specimen in a separate container according to your teacher’s directions • Place sharp instruments in the location designated by your teacher • Wash hands with soap and water after dissection
