  4. Sunday Club divides into 2 main groups – Bright Sparks (pre-school) and those who are at school. If numbers permit, we then work in different age groups according to school key stages. The under 5s usually meet in the Sycamore room (near the back car park) and those at school usually meet in the Cedar room although the hall is also used for some activities. Sunday Club aims to help children and young people to discover: That they are special to God whose love is there for us. The nature of the God we see revealed in the life of Jesus. What it means to be a follower of Jesus Who they are as creatures created by God, in God’s image That they belong to God’s people – the Church We do this through a range of fun activities and active learning experiences which are age-appropriate.

  5. Content and approach We have developed our own 3 year curriculum, drawing on published material such as ‘Roots’, but have adapted it to meet our needs. The themes are organised so that each session can stand alone but give continuity and structure. Where possible we include a range of different activities which allows the older ones to do more practical things if they wish and the younger ones can participate in discussion topics etc. A team of 8 leaders plan and deliver the work on a rota. In addition to these themes, we celebrate the major festivals of the Christian Church. Throughout the sessions we encourage children and young people to read the Bible, to ask questions about the ‘big issues’ and consider different perspectives. Teaching is related to everyday life wherever possible.

  6. Content and approach • The themes for the year, 2018*, which are grounded in these aims are: • Prayer • Lent and Easter • The parables of Jesus • Pentecost • How to live • Peace • Advent and Christmas • * May be amended to link with church themes.

  7. Keeping in touch We try to post regular items on our ‘secret’ Facebook site as well as keeping in touch with parents by email. (Contact Janet Wales or Darren Arnold for details about the Facebook site.)

  8. Accountability and safe practice Sunday Club is accountable to the Church Council of Fulwood Methodist Church and operates within the health and safety and safeguarding policies of the Methodist Church. All leaders are DBS cleared and have attended safeguarding training. A team of leaders ensures that sessions are planned and prepared to meet the needs of the children. Key contacts: • Rev Jane Wild • Janet Wales – Sunday Club co-ordinator.

  9. Communion All children are welcome to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion which is usually celebrated at the end of the morning service on the first Sunday of the month. They may either receive the bread and wine like the adults or receive a blessing, according to the wishes of their parents. Please feel free to discuss this with the minister or one of the leaders.

  10. Hope to see you soon.
