  2. OBJECTIVES: 1.17.01 List and identify the basic structures of the male reproductive system and their functions. 1.17.02 List and identify the basic structures of the female reproductive system and their functions. 1.17.03 State the steps in the menstrual cycle.

  3. OBJECTIVES (cont.) 1.17.04 List and identify the structures of the urinary system and their functions. 1.17.05 List the basic steps in the formation of urine. 1.17.06 List the basic characteristics of urine.

  5. A. Penis - Is composed of three cylindrical rods of erectile tissue that surrounds the urethra.

  6. B. Urethra - A tube that transports semen and urine outside of the body.

  7. C. Scrotom - A skin covered pouch that is internally divided into two sacs.

  8. E. Epididymis - Elongated, cord like structure that provides storage and transportation of sperm.

  9. F. Vas deferens - a small tube that connects the epididymis and ejaculatory duct.

  10. G. Ejaculatory duct - Formed union of the vas deferens with ducts of seminal vesicles

  11. H. Seminal vesicles - secretes a viscous, alkaline fluid at the time of ejaculation.

  12. I. Prostate gland - Chestnut shaped gland encircling urethra just inferior to the bladder

  14. A. Ovaries (female gonads) B. Fallopian tubes - Serves as ducts from ovaries in which ova are transported to the uterus.

  15. C. Uterus - is a pear shaped structure in the pelvic cavity consisting of a body and a cervix.

  16. D. Vagina - Musculomembranous, collapsible tube, capable of great distension.

  17. G. Perinium - Muscular region between the vaginal orifice and the anus.

  18. I. Adrenal glands - Located on the superior surface of the kidney and produces sex hormones.

  20. Menses The endometrium of the uterus sloughs off.

  21. Preovulatory Phase The time between the last days of menses and the release of a mature egg.

  22. Ovulation The release of a mature ovum into the fallopian tube.

  23. Postovulatory The time between ovulation and onset of menses.
