Biedermann shot into the spotlight and landed himself on the world swimming map when he beat Michael Phelps in the 200meters freestyle in the 2009 FINA World Swimming Championships held in Rome. 200 free is Michael Phelps’ pet event, he had been world champion in that event for 4 years. Biedermann competed in the lane right next to Phelps when he handed him his first defeat, in a new world record time eclipsing Phelps previous record by 0.93 seconds.

  5. Both Biedermann and Phelps are excited for a rematch at this years Olympics games in London. Both athletes are longing for a rematch but without the hi-tech suites that shook the swimming world in the past few years.
