What is Azoospermia

Azoospermia is a medical condition characterized by the complete absence of sperm in a man's ejaculate (semen). Sperm are the male reproductive cells that are necessary for fertilization of an egg during sexual reproduction. Azoospermia can be a cause of male infertility, as without sperm, natural conception becomes impossible.

  3. Obstructive Azoospermia- This type occurs when there is a physical blockage or obstruction in the male reproductive tract that prevents sperm from being ejaculated. This obstruction can be due to various causes, such as a congenital anomaly, infection, injury, or previous surgery. Although sperm are produced in the testes, they cannot reach the semen because of the blockage. In some cases, surgical procedures may be able to correct the blockage and restore fertility. Non – obstructive Azoospermia- This type is more challenging to treat. It occurs when the testes do not produce enough sperm, or the sperm production process is disrupted. Non-obstructive azoospermia can result from various factors, including hormonal imbalances, genetic conditions, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, or certain infections. Treatment options for non-obstructive azoospermia are often limited, and in many cases, assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) with sperm retrieval may be considered.
