  1. On Optical Fibers Stefan Lüders ― CERN EP/SFT & IT/CO The Advisory Board on May 10th 2004

  2. CERN LAN NTP Server Back-end Front-end CERN LAN Control Room Surface DSS COM PROFIbus Shaft Optical Link Cavern Current Interconnections “DSS Optical Fibers” @ Advisory Board

  3. CPU synchronization: 2x2 9/125μm monomode with Duplex-SC (max. length 10km) • Ethernet: 2x 1300nm multimode with SC (max. 2km) DSS COM PROFIbus • PROFIbus: 2x2 62,5/125μm multimode with 2 BFOC (max. 3km) • plus spares !!!! Optical Link New Interconnection New interconnection between surface and cavern: Surface Shaft Cavern “DSS Optical Fibers” @ Advisory Board

  4. Costs & Consequences • CPU synchr.:solved with new CPUs (6/2004) • Ethernet:requires new switches (2x 760 CHF) • PROFIbus:requires four converters from Siemens “OLM” (4x 320 Euro)plus some rearrangements inside the DSUs “DSS Optical Fibers” @ Advisory Board
