Our goal is to impart a strong foundation upon which to build character and skills necessary to lead ones life to success. • Youth group started in 1919 by Masonic Fraternity. • A fraternity for young men between the ages of 12 and 21. • Best described as Boy Scouts for city folk.

  4. Why Look at DeMolay? • DeMolay is a nonprofit youth group • Has defined organizational structure • Has strong youth leadership focus • Youth work on a level playing field with adults when running activities • Has a distinct membership growth problem

Adult Volunteer Activity • In Chapter: • Board of Advisors that works in collaboration with youth to supervise and plan events • Chaperones activities • Acts as liaison between Chapter and sponsoring body • Conducts annual training events for elected youth officers • Acts as cabinet of advisers to elected youth president and chairman’s of activities/programs

  6. Youth Involvement • Chapter: • Plans and organizes events and activities • Prepares and follows budget, fundraising where necessary. • Presides over own business meeting to decide democratically on what actions to take • Follows up on progress of other members in planning activities • Prepares training for elected officers • Elects own leadership

  11. What is a Leader? • A person who uses an art or process developed to influence followers to accomplish the goals of the group • A person who uses personal relationships as the vehicle of influence, with the caveat being personal growth or improvement in both the leader and follower as a result of that relationship.

  12. What is a Leader? • A leader leads by example. • A leader shows proficiency in creating relationships which facilitate the growth of followers as separate persons. • A leader strives to unify ones skills of improvement and proactivity.

  13. The Problem • Decreased youth membership • Decreased adult involvement

  14. The Solutions • Increased volume of socially focused events. • Taking advantage of the population of Senior DeMolay’s in State. • Redefining the current advisor structure, so as to fully utilize them.

  15. What Is Leadership? • Leaders aren’t born they’re made. • Good communication is vital to any group larger than two. • Youth groups must have adult buy in, support the activities of the youth. • DeMolay sells constructive fun, so have fun, boost membership, and get their parents.

  16. What Now? • Why is the rate of adult volunteers decreasing? • Why aren’t Senior DeMolay’s coming back into the fold? • What other techniques are employed by other non-profits to attract volunteers?
