What are the most dangerous high school sports? • Cheerleading is said to be the most competitive and dangerous sport in schools. • Although it is not a common high school sport, lacrosse is a high-risk sport because of many major factors. • Hockey includes flying pucks, sticks, fights, and blades which is obviously threatening to players. • Gymnastics is very common to cheer, but there are a lot more props used and it is usually not a team effort.

What are the most common dangerous high school sports? • Lacrosse has caused a recorded 19 deaths, but has only caused that amount because it is not a year-round or common sport, especially in high school. • Cheerleading has over thousands of competitive participants and it is a year-round sport. • Gymnastics also has thousands of participants and goes on all year. • Hockey is a sport that varies for each state; for example, it is more common in Michigan and the northern states than in Florida and all of the southern states.

  4. What factors of cheerleading make it dangerous? • There are many team stunts in which one person is thrown in the air and the other team members catch the flyer. If one thing went wrong or one person was out of place during one of these stunts, every cheerleader is at risk. • One slight incorrect movement could throw off the catch and lead to major injuries like broken bones, stress fractures, and concussions.

How is hockey dangerous? • Hockey is a sport that is known for its aggressiveness and common head injuries. • Although there is a heavy amount of equipment, there are many violent moves in hockey that can cause major damage to the spine, certain joints, or the head. • The skates are an obvious reason why hockey is considered a dangerous sport. I, myself know many players who have had injuries involving skates. • A hockey puck can travel up to 90 mph and can break the protective glass which can lead to more severe injuries.

What makes gymnastics dangerous? • Dieting to stay thin and healthy is very common in gymnastics, but it can often lead to eating disorders, such as anorexia, because of the lack of food and tremendous amount of exercise. • When athletes start gymnastics at an early age, the can have growth problems because of the impact on his or her joints. • There are many risk-taking factors of gymnastics like the beam, rings, vaults, and more. • Gymnastics also presents more obvious risks like joint, spinal, and head injuries.
