  2. Praying In The Spirit ________________

  3. Praying In The Spirit Ephesians 6:18-20 ~ Our Prayer Task And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

  4. Praying In The Spirit John 16:7-15 ~ Our Framework …I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counsellor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: In regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

  5. Praying In The Spirit John 16:7-15 ~ Our Framework • The work of the ‘paraclete’, our ‘counsellor’, ‘advocate’, ‘guide’; the one who comes along side to make Jesus present – even though we no longer see him – is to… • Lead us into Truth about the Gospel… Sin (unbelief in Jesus); Righteousness (Jesus the faithful one who does the work of and reveals the father; Judgement (the final reckoning – overthrow of the powers). • The Spirit of Truth reveals the fullness of God (trinitarian) and glorifies Jesus: • The Spirit gives us our framework for prayer. Prayer should be concerned these things.

  6. Praying In The Spirit Romans 8:18-25 ~ Arising from need(connected to the whole creations need of God) I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labour pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

  7. Praying In The Spirit Romans 8:26-27,34 ~ Enabled Intercession In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for uswith groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will… It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. (See also Hebrews 7-9)

  8. Praying In The Spirit Romans 8:20-27,34 ~ Enabled Intercession • The Spirit helps us in our weakness – it gets too much for us . • He searches our hearts – understands our deep desires. • He intercedes with Jesus who understands the Spirit and • Intercedes with the Father . • There is deep unity within God revolving around communication of the Truth and we are caught up in this.

  9. Praying In The Spirit I Corinthians 12:4 -11Mystical Prayer ~ One Of The Gifts Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

  10. Praying In The Spirit I Corinthians 14:1-5Tongues ~ One Of The Gifts Pursue love then and strive for the spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy. For those who speak in a tongue do not speak to other people but to God; for nobody understands them, since they are speaking mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, those who prophesy speak to other people for their up-building and encouragement and consolation. Those who speak in a tongue build up themselves, but those who prophesy build up the church. Now I would like all of you to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. One who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up. (See also following in same chapter)

  11. Praying In The Spirit • Praying in the Truthfor humanity – especially the saints to the glory of God. • Arising from need – the alienated creation. • Enabled prayer – Spirit prayer…searched from our hearts – beyond wordsreceived by Jesuswho intercedes within the heart of God. • Mystical prayer an enabling gift from Godto be eagerly sought – in good order – as part of building up the church.
