Mid-Year Check on EMS/OSH Objectives • Based on the Management Review last October, the following are the ESSHQ objectives and measures established at C-AD for FY11: • Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 3% reduction • Unneeded Materials and Chemicals, 3% reduction • Regulatory, 0 Notices of Violation, 0 Permit Exceedances • 0 Lost Workday Incidence • 0 Total Recordable Incidence

Status as of 5-17-11 • Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 3% reduction – • Indirectly, see next slide • Unneeded Materials and Chemicals, 3% reduction – • C- Line and D line cleanup, some chemicals at 801 • 0 Notices of Violation, 0 Permit Exceedances • 0 Notices of violation from regulators • 0 Spills • 0 Lost Workday Incidence – • 2 DARTS • Injury from truck flip over (lost time) • Cut finger at TVDG (restricted work) • 0 Total Recordable Incidence – • 2 Recordable Injuries • See above

DOE’s Site Sustainability Plan for BNL (GHG Reduction) • Install on-site renewable energy projects • Purchase renewable energy credits or carbon offsets as necessary • Temperature set-backs; more efficient office equipment • Long Island Solar Farm Project (32 MW PV array); install additional ~1 MW PV array for BNL • Solar powered traffic signals and parking lights; solar heating systems for B30 and B464 • Continue acquiring Alternative Fuel Vehicles: 20% CNG and 80% E85 for all acquisitions • Continue installing advanced meters for steam and standard meters for water • Cool roofs have been specified; R-30 has been specified • Continue to train more staff; update employee orientation programs to include sustainability • Research cost-effective SF6leak-detection devices • Improve infrastructure as funding permits • Use best management practices for water conservation
