  1. NODEM - A Tool Endorsed by NAMS Group Low Cost Optimized Decision Making Platform for Asset Management

  2. Background of NODEM • Supporting of dTIMS Implementation (since 1998) • RAMM Interface, Reporting and Auditing Functions etc • Supporting of Research And Project Needs (since 1999) • HDM-3/HDM-4 Model Comparison, Transit Sectioning Project, Transit Calibration Sections Project etc • Supporting of Survey Data Processing and Validation (since 1999) • Annual Data Collection, Processing and Presentation etc for various Councils • Become NODEM ( since 2005) • Incorporate Requirements from NAMS ODM Guideline • Obtain NAMS Endorsement • Used as Platform for Applications (since 2000) • New Zealand and Overseas

  3. For Optimised Decision Making • NAMS Group has released ‘Optimised Decision Making’ (ODM) Guidelines in 2004 for decision making and economic analysis of the maintenance, renewal and replacement of infrastructure assets. • NODEM as ‘flexible’ and ‘low cost’ software platform is specifically developed, so that the ODM guidelines could be implemented for various assets and for cross asset optimisation Decisions made based on quadruple bottom line (QBL), i.e. social, cultural, economicaland environmental factors, would ensure sustainable management of the infrastructure assets. NODEM can be used to undertake economic analysis, risk analysis and multi-criteria analysis and thus QBL reporting is possible.

  4. Why NODEM ? • LOW cost option • System available in VERY reasonable price • Single system for all aspect of Decision Making, i.e. • Can undertake economic optimisation, risk assessment, valuation, cross asset optimisation • Proven Platform • Has been used for developing various asset management systems • Customisable User Interface • User can modify the user interface to make it easy to operate • Fully compatible with MS Access and MS Excel • Extremely Flexible • Wizards and Designers available for all functionalities. ENGINEER can customise system. PROGRAMMERNOT NEEDED • Can be used to build simplified as well as complicated systems • Supported by a team of Experienced Asset Management Specialists

  5. NODEM is: • A Low Cost & Flexible Software Platform to build Reporting and Decision Making Tools • Specifically Designed and marketed as off-the-Shelf software in NZ and Australia • Can be Easily Integrated with Existing Systems to Fill Gaps • Provides Added Value in Decision Making process

  6. NODEM – Available Modules • NODEM for Kerbs and Channel • NODEM for Streetlight • NODEM for Bridges • NODEM for Footpaths • NODEM for Pipelines • NODEM for Seawalls • NODEM Programme • NODEM Programme Audit • NODEM dataView Minor customisation of these modules is generally needed to replicate local conditions and practices Asset Management System for any other Assets can be easily configured in NODEM due to its in-built flexibility

  7. NODEM used for: • Data Analysis • Generating information on inventory, current condition and level of service in form of reports, strip-maps, graphs & Gis Maps; • Defining target Level of Service (LOS) or Long-term performance standard for Asset Preservation; • Needs analysis for achieving LOS. • Benefit Cost Analysis (Including Community Optimisation) • Predictive modelling; • Quantifying benefits and costs; • Evaluate different methods or alternatives possible; • Prioritisation and /or Optimisation; • Programming and scheduling.

  8. NODEM used for … contd. • Risk analysis • Define expected and uncertainty; • Managing risk; • Prioritising based on risk identified. • Asset valuation • Based on NAMS Asset Valuation and Depreciation guidelines; • Compatible to FRS3 requirements. • Cross Asset Optimisation • Strategy analysis for policy formulation; • Prioritising projects between different assets. • Multi-criteria analysis • Defining priority and weighted index for different parameters; • Prioritisation based on defined criteria

  9. NODEM Functionalities(With Example of a Footpath Module)

  10. Overall ProcessAvailable in NODEM Depending on user requirements, any of the processes can be skipped/altered/added. Preferable to start with a simple system & gradually add new processes

  11. NODEM Objects User definable objects allows flexible customisation

  12. Navigator used for: Select Elements to be viewed/Reported based on list Run various process Navigator can be customised by User to make it easy to Operate

  13. Navigator used for: Run various process Select Elements to be viewed/Reported based on map Navigator can be customised by User to make it easy to Operate

  14. Navigator as Filter Configurable filters Filter based on a Footpath Section Filter base on Road Category Filter based on a District Filter based on a National Highway User can customise how to group assets

  15. Data Import User Friendly Interface available for data import from .mdb, .txt, .xls, .dbf files Possible to select the corresponding fields, even if the field name in Source and Existing Table do not match

  16. Using Grid mode (Functions available to customise display) Data Entry/Update: Using Data Entry Form (Wizard available to develop/modify Data Entry form)

  17. Data – Viewing made easy with various functionality Sort Export Find Hide Column Split Window Quick Graph Filter

  18. Reports - on Data Analysis helps on informed decision making • Wizard available to prepare Report Template • MS Access can be used to create query • Report can be opened & modified in MS Excel

  19. Reporting Using Built-in GIS Viewer Data and analyses results can be displayed in thematic maps

  20. User definable Menu and analysis process to Run Analyses Analyses

  21. Optimised Work Programme NODEM allows to select the best option for each asset element based on the life cycle analysis and available Funding. NODEM can predict the future condition of the assets for the Optimised Work Programme

  22. Programming & Scheduling User can manually select the best option to be included in multi-year programme considering various issues. Parameters to assist in making decisions are displayed (including results of live multi-criteria analysis) Manual updating of year & cost possible.

  23. Programming Form View User can manually adjust programme detail along with other views

  24. Programming/Multi-assets OptisationStripmap View User can manually adjust programme detail along with other views

  25. Integrated Data Play Sychronised multi-media view/play includes map, chart, video and photos etc. Data can be played in dual screens, and up to five videos can be played at the same time

  26. Risk Management Criteria for Identifying Risk (Updatable based on User requirements) Risk Assessment Report (User definable template available)
