2. Camporee 2010 • Two-night event (Friday-Sunday) • Theme: 100th Anniversary of scouting “The Spirit of Baden-Powell” • Celebrating the seminal event in 1900 that led to the foundation of Scouting in 1908 and BSA in 1910. • Combination of Day activities and a Nitehike activity, featuring activity stations based on events that took place in Siege of Mafeking 1899-1900.

3. Where? Ranger Creek airfield Approx 30 minutes from Enumclaw, WA Participants need NW Forest Pass for vehicles $5 per day or $30 annual Limited number of passes available for loan-out at HQ-- $30 deposit

Tentative Camporee 2010 Schedule • Fri, 17 September • 5-8 pm check-in, set up tents • 8 pm– SPL/Scoutmaster Meeting • 9 pm – Campfire– “the Spirit of Baden-Powell” • Guest Speaker OA tapout • Saturday, 18 September • 7 am – Reveille • 9 am – Assembly/Announcements/Patrol Check in • Patrols Check in, receive “military documents” (score sheet) plus start time for Nite Scouting event • Patrols do preparation work during day (equipment check, practice map and compass)– OA assisting • 10 am – Patrol Flag judging • 11 am – Matchless fire starting (start a fire with flint and steel or bow or magnifying glass) • 12 pm – Patrol Cooking competition (Backpacking cooking with stove, limited water, time) • 1 pm – Patrol Challenge Tug of War competition • 2 pm -- Patrol Relay race (two-legged, run, bike, walk, two person carry, all while carrying raw egg) • 3 pm-- Units set up stations • 4 pm– Patrols begin Nite Scouting event (sunset at 7:15 pm) • Patrols/crews report to HQ at appointed time, are given scouting assignment and map, depart at 5 min intervals– LDS units will be given first departure time slots. • Midnight (or earlier at Unit preference)– wrap up NiteHike Units desiring to can depart Camporee at any time • Sunday, 19 September • 9 am– Reveille • 10 am– Scouts Own/Divine Services • Break camp

7. Nite Scouting Activity Relief of Mafeking • Patrol function (similar to previous NiteHike events) • Each patrol checks in at appointed time, is given map and score sheet • Webelos dens have a smaller subset of stations, all marked on their maps • Scouts Patrols have start station marked, navigate to other stations based on instructions found at each station using map and compass. • Venturing Crews have no stations marked on map, receive GPS coordinates for stations, additional stations to find • Stations run by Troops, Crews, and OA • Some stations are unmanned, with code words to copy down, others have activities • Station activities around story of Siege of Mafeking and first Brownsea campout: • Team building: the patrol cross a 100 foot minefield carrying all their required gear by using two sets of 8 foot 2x4s with ropes • Ladder building: using poles and rope to build a ladder to get the entire patrol up a ravine wall (or similar barrier) • Silent observation: sneak up on a “sleeping” enemy scout and write down info on paper in front of him without detection • Problem solving: using materials on the site, saw through a vertical pole in the middle of a “pond” • Stalking: Silently follow an enemy scout through his course, trying to not be detected. • Observation: Kim's game around a enemy camp • First aid: treat two gunshot wound, build a stretcher carry patient over rough terrain with an egg under his head • Teamwork, Observation: sneak through a searchlight gauntlet, where lights are pointed at anyone making noise • Measurement: measure height, width, depth of an object • Silent march: although the entire event is to be done quietly, this part of the trail is monitored for noise • Fire building: burn the string • Other?
