  7. Imagine This is Your Team Jose trained you You ride to work with Joe This is your boss Steve, he’s tough but fair…he gave you a day off just because you were tired – you didn’t even ask This is George, he makes everybody laugh…

Jose always complained about that area of the plant with the forklift backing up…he’s no longer here… Joe lost his arm, I knew he sometimes shortcut LOTO, but he’s worked here a long time…he is having a hard time adjusting. Now Imagine….. Steve is wearing stitches now…he wasn’t wearing gloves – told us to, wear them, but he never did George lost an eye. I saw him 3 days before not wearing his glasses

  9. So how do you Manage Safety? • Just like any other job, you need to have a tool box with tools in it. • In Safety that is called a “Health and Safety Management System”(HSMS) • there are a lot of tools within that HSMS • tools are adjustable and adaptable in most cases

  30. Safety on the Production Floor • First- Take a deep breath • Second- Scan the work area • How many people do I see? • Could any of them get hurt? • Third- Talk to employees about how they could get hurt (not what they did wrong) • Fourth- If it’s broke- fix it

  33. Effective One-on-One Skills • Listen. Stop talking! • Ask questions to clarify understanding. • Repeat what was said. • Reflect the person’s feelings. • Avoid inappropriate body language. • Watch their reactions … crossed arms 35
