  1. Hazel Avenue School 2011 Spring After School Program

  2. 2009-2010 Program History • A five (5) year NPP (Neighborhood Preservation Program) grant ended in 2010, which paid for school staff to offer a free after school program for our students. The program was offered for two, five (5) week long sessions with clubs such as: computer, dance, chess, Lego and a Kindergarten cooking class. • That same year, a handful of volunteer parent-teachers organized classes based on their interests and skills in scrap booking, gardening, health and wellness, art, science, fitness, knitting, math and finance. • PTA parent taught classes were offered along with the Hazel’s After School Program sponsored by the NPP grant, which doubled the size of the program, and provided classes to 158 students for a nominal fee.

  3. 2011 Program Details • Funds were allocated for three (3) no fee classes taught by Hazel teachers. • Three times as many parents (total of 17) were recruited this year for volunteer parent led classes, requiring a $25.00 fee to help pay for program expenses. • Visiting Artist Workshops were offered the week following the main After School Program, for no fee. • A total of 200 spots were filled through a combination of (free) Hazel Teacher classes, ($25.00) PTA Parent-Teacher Classes and (no fee) Visiting Artist Workshops. • Each parent volunteer teacher received one free class.
