  1. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

  2. What key decision did you make about technology? • Throughout the process I had to make some key decisions on what technology to use. I decided to use InDesign for the construction of my magazine, Photoshop to edit my photos, Wordpress to log my work, Prezi to present some of my evaluation questions, SurveyMonkey to create a survey and social media sites (Facebook and Twitter) to promote the survey.

  3. Why were these decisions made? • I decided on using all of these programmes and websites for the same reason; it made the final product look professional. • I used InDesign as I knew this was what professionals use to create magazines and wanted my magazine to appear as professional as possible. • I used Photoshop to edit my photos as not only did it make my images look professionally finished it was also the easiest programme to use. • I used SurveyMonkey as this not only delivered a survey but also gave you graphs as well. • I used Twitter and Facebook to promote this survey as these are the most popular sites and as I have a lot of followers I knew I was going to get a varied reply on the survey. • I used Wordpress to log my work as it kept it neat and organised, it was also the easiest to work with.

  4. What technologies did you use at stage? • To begin the process I opened a Wordpress account so I could keep my work on it and wouldn’t have to worry about my work getting lost. • I then had to create a survey to ask my audience what they expected to see in a music magazine, what artists they expected to see etc. I used SurveyMonkey as it was the most efficient and also gave you results in a word format and graph format. • I then had to promote this and used Twitter and Facebook in order to do this as I knew I would get the biggest response by using these sites. • I then had to create my logo and edit my photos I used Photoshop to do this and used various fonts, brushes and coloursbefore settling on one final image. I used different brushes and healing tools to edit my photos such as the spot healing tool, dodge tool, burn tool and the quick selection tool. • Once completed I had to start on my front cover, contents page and double page spread. In order to set these up I used InDesign as this was the best programme to use and also gave the final product a professional finish.

  5. What were successful uses of new technologies? • The successes of the new technologies in particular were Photoshop, InDesign, Wordpress and SurveyMonkey. • Photoshop worked well as it gave the photos a flawless finish and also was relatively easy to use, although I struggled to begin with I picked it up quite well after using it a few times. • InDesign work well as I got to set out a layout before entering photos and text which gave me a general overview of how the magazine was going to be set out. I also thought InDesign was a success because I had never used it before I picked it up pretty well. • Another success was Wordpress, as I already have my own blog I found it really easy to organise and log my work on a blog, I also found it really useful for when I wanted to check over any work I had previously done. • I also found that SurveyMonkey worked really well as I got really successful results from it and also the interpretation of the graphs was really useful.

  6. What were less successful? • The technologies that were less successful were the social media sites as I didn’t get as many responses as I would’ve liked to however I did get thirty which I was pretty pleased with this.

  7. What have you learnt? • From this whole process I have gained so many skills. I have learnt how to edit photos in Photoshop, how to create a magazine on InDesign, how to structure a Survey on SurveyMonkey and also how to present a magazine depending on your target audience. • I’ve also learnt the difference between all the brushes and tools on Photoshop and InDesign.
