  2. Roles • Albert: The person who celebrates the Hanukkah • Jeron: The person who celebrates Hanukkah • Angeline: person who joins the Hanukkah celebration • Janice: the narrator, plays the organ, person who celebrates Hanukkah.

  3. About the tradition • Hanukkah is a tradition that is also called as the Festival of Light. • Hanukkah is held when there is an 8 day holiday (it is specially made for Hanukkah) • Hanukkah is also held to remember the battle, it is also to remember Matthias group (the person who battled with the king) called the Macabees (After the name of his son Macabee).

  4. Hanukkah was held on the 25th day of the Hebrew calendar, at the month of Kislev. • The ones who celebrate this tradition are mostly the people of Israel, Judea and the Jews, and the person who have connection with it. • An 8 day holiday is held for the people to celebrate Hanukkah.

  5. The Purpose • Hanukkah is held to remember the day when the Macabees won over the king who asked them to obey an idol. (Memorial of the battle) • Hanukkah is also held to remember the day when the Macabees needed oil to light the candle and the oil was not enough so it can only last for 8 days.

  6. First step • Put the menorah in front of a 3 part window.

  7. Second step • On day 1, put the first candle on the right side and in the middle. Light both of them • In the rest 7 days, put one candle each day and light them using the middle candle

  8. Third step • Say the bible verse for Hanukkah, called Hanerot Halalu.

  9. Hanerot Halalu Hanerot halalu anachnu madikin Al hanissim ve’al haniflaot Al hatshu-ot ve’al hamilchamot : we light these candles to commemorate the miracles and the wonders and the acts of salvation and the battles

  10. Hanerot Halalu She-asita la’avoteynu Bayamim hahem, bazman hazeh Al yedey kohanecha hakdoshim : That you fought for our ancestors at this time, through your righteous priests

  11. Hanerot Halalu Vechol shmonat yemey Chanukah Hanerot halalu kodesh hem, Ve-ein lanu reshut lehistamesh bahem Ela lirotambilvad : During all eight days of Hanukkah these lights are holy and we have no right to make use of them but only to behold them

  12. Fourth step • Say the 3 blessings when praying.

  13. 1st Blessing Baruch atah adonai eloheinu melech ha’ olam asher kidishanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu I’had’lik neir shel Chanukah. : Blessed are you, Lord G-D ruler of the universe , who sanctifies us with the commandments and command us to kindle the lights of Hanukkah.

  14. 2nd Blessing Baruch atah adonai eloheinu melech ha’ olam she’asah nisim la’avoteinu bayamim haheim baz’man hazeh. : Blessed are you, Lord G-d, ruler of the universe, who performed miracles for our ancestors during this season long ago.

  15. 3rd Blessing Baruch atah adonai eloheinu melech ha’ olam shecheyanu v’kiy’manu v’higyanu lazman hazeh. : Blessed are you, Lord G-d, ruler of the universe, who has supported us, protected us, and enabled us to reach this joyous time.

  16. Fifth Step • Play the driedel game with gelt, the Hanukkah money. (This game is usually played in Hanukkah)

  17. Sixth step • Eat Latkes. (Potato fried pancakes, oil is important in Hanukkah so the food was mostly fried. Seventh step • Exchange the gifts to the other person who celebrate Hanukkah too. (To appreciate the other person)

  18. The items used • Menorah  The 8 day of the oil miracle • Hanukkah candles  To light the Menorah

  19. Dreidel The things to play at the Hanukkah • Gelt The Hanukkah money, it was used in the dreidel game

  20. Gifts / presents  To give to the other person who celebrate Hanukkah. • Fried food The food consumed in the celebration • Match  to light the candle
