About KIC ◈Established under the KIC Act by the Ministry of Justice, 1988 ◈National research institute in crime & criminal justice in Korea ◈Consists of over 90 research and administration staff ◈Official member of *UNPNI ◈Mission statement • Developing new policy frameworks for crime and criminal justice • Building stronger international research networks • Providing practical information to the public and expanding national information services • Enhancing creativity and overall satisfaction of KIC family * UN Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network Institutes

Major activities - Research ◈ Research outputs - Over 1,000 articles and over 800 books (during the last two decades) ◈28 Research Projects in 2013 include: - Survey and Analysis of Immigration Control Law for Enhancing Human Rights - A Study on Measures to Improve Judiciary Interpreting in Criminal Justice Procedures - The Countermeasures against Juvenile Bullying - Korean victimization and its Protection in Southeast Asia: Vietnam and Malaysia - Community-based management of sex offenders in Korea (II): An examination of electronics monitoring system - Studies on the Risk-Governing Criminal Law and Criminology in the Late-Modern Society (II) - Criminal Policy on the Confidentiality of Communications with the Network Neutrality [Further information can be found at: http://kic.re.kr/english/aboutus/major.asp]

Major activities – Library service ◈KIC Library • is the largest library in the field of crime and criminal justice in Korea • has more than 68,000 publications • subscribes more than 100 journals from 15 countries • provides online DBs such as SocINDEX with full text & Westlaw ◈Public Service • Crime and Criminal Justice Statistics (CCJS) • National Crime Victimization Survey • Law Education Program for the Rule of Law

Major activities – International cooperation 12th World Congress on Criminology • organized by KIC in Seoul, 1998 UNPNI • became a member of UNPNI in 2004 11th UN Congress on Crime Prevention & Criminal Justice Virtual Forum against Cybercrime (VFAC) Project • organized workshop on computer related crime in Bangkok, 2005 • launched the project in accordance with UNODC in 2006

Major activities – International cooperation Towards AsiaJust Programme • began the program with UNODC Regional Center for East Asia and the Pacific in 2009 12th UN Congress on Crime Prevention & Criminal Justice • co-organized workshop on international criminal justice education in Brazil, 2010 4th Annual Conference of the Asian Criminological Society • Organized international conference of the Asian Criminological Society in Seoul, 2012
