  2. Goals of the Session • Understand how MOSIS intends to use data provided from the December Student Core File. • Understand which students should be reported in the December Student Core File. • Review the data items required to be reported in the December Student Core File. • Understand how districts are to report the December Student Core File.

  3. Understand how MOSIS intends to use data provided from the December Student Core File • MOSIS will pilot the use of student level data needed by Core Data Screen 11 (December 1 Child Count). • This will include students enrolled in the district on the count date (December 1) and that are reported with an IEP. • MOSIS will use the data for “pre-coding” the student labels for MAC II --Maculaitis Assessment of Competencies - assessment test for Limited English Proficient students (LEP) grades K-12. • This will include students from all grades who are reported as LEP/ELL. • MOSIS will use the data for “pre-coding” the student labels for MAP – Missouri Assessment Program grades 3-8, 10 and 11. • This will include all students in grades 3-8, 10 and 11.

  4. Understand which students should be reported in the December Student Core File. • A single record for each student that is currently enrolled. • Used for December 1 child count and pre-coding state assessments.

  5. Review the data items required to be reported in the December Student Core File.

  6. 57 Data Items December Student Core File

  7. MAP Pre-Code Sort Order • District Name • School Name • Teacher • Grade • Student Last & First Name

  8. Pre-Code Change for 2007-08 • In the PAST (2006 and 2007 spring tests) • December/January submit a “pre-code” file containing the “demographic” data for students. • CTB created bar code labels which were placed on student books. • During test administration • new student would “bubble in” data on the various test books. • If demographic data changed the item could be changed on the test booklet. • If the top part of the bubble sheet was inaccurate the label was not used. • After test results were returned, DESE would create a “trial” including all tested students for districts to make MAP Demographic Updates – usually in September/October

  9. Pre-Code Change for 2007-08 • In the FUTURE (2008 spring test) • December submit a precode file with the “identification” information for a student. • CTB created bar code labels which will be placed on student books. • During test administration • new student would “bubble in” data on the test book(s). • If the top part of the bubble sheet is inaccurate the label will not be used. • APRIL 2008 – MOSIS Student Core data file will be collected. This data will be linked to the student test results using MOSIS ID. • Changes will occur to the Student Core file if there are errors.

  10. “Pre-Code” Time Line for 2007-08 • Collection opened November 19th, 2007 • MACII due by December 14th, 2007 • MAP due by January 4th , 2008 • April 2008 Student Core File • MOSIS ID clean-up possibly May-June. • Data linked July 2008 – corrections made to April Student Core file

  14. MOSIS Phase III – Walk Through • The on-line process is the same one used for the MAP Pre-Coding. • The district submission needs to be one file for the entire district. • The user will logon the DESE web application login screen, choose the Missouri Student Information System (MOSIS) option, “Agree” to the security notification and then choose the appropriate component.

  15. MOSIS Phase III – MOSIS Data Collection Basic Steps • Collect and enter data into local systems. • Extract data out of local systems. • Validate data extracted from local systems. • Merge extracted data into district level datasets.(if necessary) • Create trials by uploading datasets to the online MOSIS Data Collection System. • Correct errors and review warnings in the created trial. • Certify created trials.

  16. MOSIS Phase III – 3 Ways to Correct trial data. • Local Student Information System correction • Always desirable to correct data as close to the source as possible. • Download trial and correct data via text editor or spreadsheet application. • Microsoft Excel can alter data and must be used with care. • These changes do not appear in your SIS system. • Edit data online via MOSIS Data Collection System • These changes do not appear in your SIS system.
