  1. Different Types Of Dental Braces There are two types of braces: traditional braces and Invisalign. Traditional braces come in metal brackets that are placed on the front side of the teeth. They are mostly used for children. They are not seen easily because they do not protrude, they are more comfortable than wires placed on the teeth. For adults, traditional braces work the same way, but they are much more visible. They are also not as comfortable as Invisalign, so many adults opt for Invisalign instead. Traditional braces are made from metal or wood and they are attached to each tooth by a tooth bracket or screw. The brackets are often made to be able to snap together or snap apart, which allows the wires to be hidden when the brackets are removed. Wire braces are much easier to see, but some adults have problems seeing the wires when they are worn. Wires are invisible, so there is no problem with being embarrassed about them. The second type of braces that are available today is clear braces. Clear braces are made of clear plastic material that is placed directly over the front part of the tooth. They are difficult to see when they are worn but they are also the least noticeable. Clear braces are much harder to wear than metal brackets, so this may affect their popularity. However, some adults are choosing to wear clear braces because of their extreme ease of seeing. Some adults have what is called an overbite. An overbite occurs when the teeth on one side of the mouth do not face each other. Instead, the teeth appear to face forwards. Because they are unable to keep all of their teeth in place with this bite, dentists consider an overbite to be a cosmetic problem. Braces that correct an overbite allow the patient to maintain the appearance of a straight smile, although they cannot make any real changes in the structure of the jawbone. Another of the different types of braces includes those that use metal brackets instead of wires. These types of braces are worn by people who do not have perfect alignment. Metal aligners are placed inside the mouth on the teeth that do not line up perfectly with each other. By wearing these metal aligners, dentists can give the patient the appearance of being completely straight.

  2. Finally, there are clear or ceramic braces that are made to use overlapping aligners and metal brackets. These types of braces are designed to move with the growth of your mouth. If you smoke or have dentures, you will be limited in the types of braces that you can get. However, many adults still wear these braces because they are less obvious than traditional metal braces. In addition, they are less uncomfortable than traditional braces and can be worn for longer periods of time. Ceramic braces can last for several years, although they must be replaced after a certain period.
