  2. What is Dental Braces: Braces are devices used in orthodontics to align and straighten teeth and positions them with regard to person's bite. Braces are commonly known as Orthodontic braces and dental braces. Braces straighten teeth by putting steady pressure on your teeth while staying in place for a certain amount of time.

  3. Components Used in Dental Braces: 1. Brackets 2. Archwires 3. Rubber Bands 4. Spacers 5. Elastics

  4. Brackets: Brackets are a small square that is bounded on front part of teeth. These brackets act like handles which hold the archwire that moves the teeth. Occasionally, Brackets are cemented on the back part of teeth in order to hide from view.

  5. Arch wires Archwires are attached to the brackets and act as a tracker to guide the movement of teeth.

  6. Elastic Rubber Bands: Tiny elastic rubber bands, called ligatures, hold the arch wires to the brackets.

  7. Spacers: Spacers are separators that fit between teeth to create a small space prior to placement of orthodontic bands.

  8. Elastics: Elastics are attached to hooks on brackets and are worn between the upper and lower teeth in various ways. This applies pressure to move the upper teeth against the lower teeth to achieve a perfect fit of individual teeth.

  12. Ceramic Braces: 1. These are an esthetic alternative to plastic braces. 2. Made of monocrystalline and polycrystalline ceramic material. 3. it is stain resistant and biocompatible.

  13. Lingual Braces: 1. These are same as metal braces except that they are on the inside of the bite instead on the outside. 2. These come with a number of negatives which make them inappropriate for many patients. 3. It's very difficult to keep it clean. 4. It takes a long procedure and is more expensive than traditional braces most patients do not opt for this type of treatment.

  14. Self Ligating Braces: 1. This is similar to traditional and ceramic braces which make use of brackets and wire system. 2. It uses brackets with clips or doors that hold on to the wire, instead of the rubber band tie system. 3. It can be found in both metal and ceramic versions, but they are not the right choice for every patient.
