  1. Radiosurgery - Radiofrequency in Dermatology Radiosurgery / Radiofrequency is one of the recent advances in the management of benigncutaneous skin lesions. Electrosurgery has been in practice for many years wherein coagulation / tissue destructionis produced by the heat created as electric current passes through the tissues. Theradiofrequency unit is a recent modification over electrosurgery as it operates at afrequency of 3.8 mHz. MECHANISH OF ACTION OF RADIOFREQUENCY WAVES The radiofrequency unit consists of a transformer that changes the main voltage to a highvoltage and a high frequency. Resistance to the passage of radio waves through tissuegenerates heat, which causes the coagulation of the tissue. The advantage ofradiofrequency over electrocautery is less lateral tissue damage and presence ofcoagulation mode which can be used in cases of bleeding during the procedure. INDICATIONS: 1. Infection: 1. Facial warts 2. Palmar warts 3. Plantar warts 4. Molluscum Infection 2. Benign Skin Conditions: 1. Skin Tags 2. Freckles

  2. 3. Black Heads / DPN 4. Cherry Angioma (Age related red colour spots) 5. Spider Naevi 6. Rhinophyma (Growth of the tip of the nose) 3. Cosmetic Indications: 1. Mole removal 2. Telangiectasia (Fine branches of blood vessels under the skin) 3. Scar Revision 4. Facial Resurfacing / Facial Toning 5. Actinic Keratosis 4. Facial Rejuvenation 5. Skin tightening over face and neck 6. Used in combination with diode laser for wrinkles and with jessner’s peel for facial rejuvenation CONTRA INDICATIONS: 1. Patients with keloidal tendency 2. Patients with history of pace makers 3. Patients with history of medicines for bood thinning 4. Patients with history of recurrent infection / herpes infection 5. Patients with unrealistic expectations Radiofrequency is one of the most cost-effective and least invasive procedures for the desired skin results. If used regularly for facial rejuvenation and skin tightening, the resultsare at par with other modalities of treatment for the same.
