  2. The Flu Epidemic of 1918 • In a little over a year - from March 1918 to • April/May 1919 the flu….. • Infected the majority of the human species. That’s 2 billion people! • Brought WWI to a close • Killed 20 – 40 million world-wide . So many & so quickly that many places ran out of coffins • Killed 550,00 Americans • Was forgotten

  4. The Flu • An upper respiratory infection • Transmission: virus • Symptoms: cough, runny nose, muscle aches & pains, high fever, extreme tiredness, sore throat, and congestion • Duration: three days to a week or two – strikes quickly • Complications: pneumonia
