  1. Professional Development: Branch Orientation

  2. Categories MIT Seminars • 5 days in May/October in Edm/Cal • Introductory level General PD • Several every month except July and Dec; June only the 1st week and August only the last week.

  3. Conference PD • April each yr with 5 or 6 two-day sessions • Primarily soft skills and management/leadership topics with 1 or 2 technical sessions of a broad, general, conceptual, multi-disciplinary nature, e.g. climate change Signature Series - New format of stand-alone, high level seminars (1-2 days) held in an external facility

  4. Principles for PD • Currently, mainly work-related soft skills, e.g. communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, negotiation skills • The focus is on work-related skills that members can readily claim for CPD points • Seminars are offered at below market rates in 1 and 2-day formats usually within our premises • The goal is to offer relevant but varied seminars of high quality with credible presenters

  5. Mandates for 2013 • To extend PD into the rural branches • To explore potential for adding more technical seminars • To investigate effective ways of providing PD online – of particular value to rural Branches

  6. Extending PD into the Branches • Brain-storming meeting on site to determine best timing, best topics from circuit • Stage 1 - “getting on the PD circuit” • APEGA’s Event Planning staff – book facility based on branch advice & order coffee, lunch, AV, etc.

  7. I work with Communications & event planners re: promotional material and strategies • PD Coordinator registers & takes payments • I work with Branch Chair to identify a volunteer as rep (free pass) at event to: • Check everyone into event • Ensure that the facility provides coffee and lunch as arranged

  8. Sheet of expectations= a guide for who does what on the branch side and APEGA head office staff • Completion of online evaluations is encouraged • Branch may want to select a PD person among the elected executive members
