  9. A new model of economic activity Start-up

  10. Whatis • A start-up company or start upis a company or temporary organization designed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model .

  11. How it works • Start-up companies can come in all forms, but the phrase "start-up company" is often associated with high growth, technology oriented companies. • Investors are generally most attracted to those new companies distinguished by their risk/reward profile and scalability. That is, they have lower bootstrapping costs, higher risk, and higher potential return on investment. • Successful start-ups are typically more scalable than an established business, in the sense that they can potentially grow rapidly with limited investment of capital, labour or land.

  12. Process

  13. Start-up Financing Cycle • Start-ups encounter several unique options for funding. Venture capital firms = seed fundingand angel investors may help start-up companies begin operations, exchanging cash for an equity stake. In practice though, many start-ups are initially funded by the founders themselves. Factoring is another option, though not unique to start ups. Some new funding opportunities are also developing in crowdfunding. • A critical task in setting up a business is to conduct research in order to validate, assess and develop the ideas or business concepts in addition to opportunities to establish further and deeper understanding on the ideas or business concepts as well as their commercial potential.

  30. Part 3

  31. Social & Collaborative aspects of society and economy - which are amplified thanks to the developments in the world of IT. The world ischanging

  32. Why marketing is migrating • A short example from to explain why marketing is migrating from marketing 1.0, to 2.0 and the newest one is the marketing 3.0. • To understand what these new concepts are for marketing we could came across with the following definitions: Marketing 1.0 Marketing 2.0 Marketing 3.0

  33. Marketing 1.0 aims to sell products;

  34. Marketing 2.0 aims to satisfy and retain customers;

  35. Marketing 3.0 aims to make the world a better place 

  36. What we can consider by this new marketing 3.0 • There is no different in evolution of the new marketing 3.0 and directions that other disciplines are going to. • It is moving to a more human side of the society.

  37. Examples Design & innovation as a model of Collaborative and Social enterprise

  38. Why design • Design created a link between the world of business and art, developing its own tools, creating a bridge between a creative mind and a mind that thinks in a more logical way. • Today, the discipline has grown and the design became a mindset, a tool that systematically generates change and innovation.

  39. Design = innovation • Design became strategic, it is no longer punctual, it acts as an efficient tool for generating change and innovation, and it is the new economy: the Design Economy. • Designers have always been looking for solutions, before they were basically material and visible, but in the new world, solutions are more complex, based on behaviour, location, environment, society, economy, culture and more. • Designers always had to work with complex situations, and are therefore more suitable for this new economy.

  40. Design is approach to solve complex problems…

  41. Part 4

  42. From idea to Collaborative & Social Enterprise collecting good practices

  43. 1 st goodpractice One Laptop per Child (OLPC)

  44. Whatitis • Low cost product with very good quality and advancedtechnology • An educational toolfestinates to the children in developing countries around the world

  45. How it works

  46. About • The XO-1, previously known as the $100 Laptop,Children's Machine, and 2B1, is an inexpensive subnotebookcomputer intended to be distributed to children in developing countries around the world, to provide them with access to knowledge, and opportunities to "explore, experiment and express themselves" (constructionist learning). • The laptop is developed by the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization and manufactured by Quanta Computer. • The subnotebooks are designed for sale to government-education systems which then give each primary school child their own laptop. Pricing was set to start at $188 in 2006, with a stated goal to reach the $100 mark in 2008 and the 50-dollar mark by 2010. When offered for sale in the Give One, Get One campaigns of Q4 2006 and Q4 2007, the laptop was sold at $199. • These rugged, low-power computers use flash memory instead of a hard drive, and come with a distribution of Linux derived from Red Hat's Fedora as their pre-installed operating system with the new SugarGUI.[9]Mobile ad-hoc networking via 802.11sWiFimesh networkingprotocol is used to allow many machines to share Internet access as long as at least one of them can see and connect to a router or other access point. • The XO-1 is also nicknamed ceibalita in Uruguay after the Ceibal project.

  47. Design • The XO-1 is designed to be low-cost, small, durable, and efficient. It is shipped with a slimmed-down version of Fedora Linux and a GUI named Sugar that is intended to help young children collaborate. The XO-1 includes a video camera, a microphone, long-range Wi-Fi, and a hybrid stylus/touch pad. In addition to a standard plug-in power supply, human power and solar power sources are available, allowing operation far from a commercial power grid. Mary Lou Jepsen has listed the design goals of the device as follows: • minimal power consumption, with a design target of 2–3 W total power consumption • minimal production cost, with a target of US$100 per laptop for production runs of millions of units • a "cool" look, implying innovative styling in its physical appearance • e-book functionality with extremely low power consumption • open source and free software provided with the laptop • Various use models had been explored by OLPC with the help of Design Continuum and Fuseproject, including: laptop, e-book, theatre, simulation, tote, and tablet architectures. The current design, by Fuseproject, uses a transformer hinge to morph between laptop, e-book, and router modes.
