  1. Gliding NZ’s Strategic Direction It’s time for an update We completed the “Voice of the Participant” last year with SportNZ We plan to develop this update over the next 12 months with you & your members. A final document will come back to us all at the next AGM…I hope… Forecasting is difficult…especially about the future BUT In my view “failing to plan is planning to fail”…

  2. Some progress here…albeit variable across the country Yes…although probably a combination of more km’s recorded as opposed to more flown Yes Yes…”Voice of the Participant”...work in progress Yes…but still dealing with attrition rate. Yes…but missed targets due wx

  3. Trends, opportunities and outcomes Trends • Increasing regulations • Changing environmental sensitivity • Noise • Land use and airspace • Fuel/climate change • Changing demographic’s and available free time and a move to individual based sports Opportunities • Evolving communications technologies internally as well as externally • Rapid Technology advances, both for flying and admin • Possibly more diverse funding sources • STEM education outcomes and focus on participant experience • Perhaps more flexible work/play time and earlier retirement? • We have a great story to tell • Strategy on a page (SOAP) • Membership development committee • Tying Club Strategies to GNZ SOAP • Funding Plan…more to come. Outcomes

  4. Vision Statement Helping NZ Gliding Clubs deliver “World Best” soaring experiences with Skill and Passion Key Strategic Areas - Membership (always a focus) - Funding - Tech development –Cloud services, Admin etc - Operations – Training, X-country, safety etc

  5. What now?? The big picture…what is gliding going to look like in 10 years time? - the regulatory environment – Doug Hamilton - the hardware (planes, gliders and propulsion) and the Olympics – Bob Henderson - Software and IT – Tim Bromhead Then we require some help from all of you… We want you to help answer the following…. “I had a great day at the club…” or not… The aim is to develop a “Strategy on a Page”.
