Updates from a sub-regional workshop for GEF focal points detailing new funds allocated for the Coral Triangle Initiative and Energy Efficiency projects in the Pacific region. The workshop discussed reinstatement of funding cuts, transfer of funds, and future project plans, aiming to minimize duplication and enhance project ownership.

New funds for Coral Triangle • GEF will provide more funds for the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) • TIM $1.76m • VAN $1.5m • SOL $2.0m • Reinstatement of cuts by GEF in May, plus some extra • ADB to consult with GEF
Funds to Micronesia Challenge • PAL and FSM will be removed from Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) • $1m will be transferred to Micronesia Challenge GEF project run by UNDP • To minimize duplication/ownership • As agreed in March 2008 • ADB to consult with GEF
Status of Coral Triangle • ADB’s Phase I TA was approved in July ($1.125m) • FIJ, PNG, SOL, TIM, VAN • TA is to design of Phase II, to run from 2010 to 2013 • Expected funding for Phase II as much as $40m
Status of Energy Efficiency • ADB TA approved 12 September ($1.7m) • PNG, SAM, TON, VAN, COO • TA is to support policy and regulatory work and capacity development • And prepare a pipeline of projects • Expected project funding as much as $30m • Open to other Pacific Member Countries
