  2. Avoid Negativity • I haven’t found it difficult to follow the school’s strict dress code and always present myself well. • Problems with the above? • Alternate Version: I have always presented myself professionally, wearing my school uniform with pride. • Successes of the above?

  3. Avoid Negativity • Until now I have only had intermittent casual work. • Problems with the above? • Alternate Version: I have had a number of casual positions in which I have learnt valuable skills. • Successes of the above?

  4. Avoid Negativity • I’m not afraid of the challenge presented by Hair Careand I really enjoy working with one. • Problems with the above? • Alternate Version: It is a fantastic opportunity to develop excellent hairdressing skills. • Successes of the above?

  5. Be 100% Confident • I try to have a balanced life with school work, exercise and social activities. • Problems with the above? (As Yoda would say, “Do or do not. There is no try.”) • Alternate Version: I have a balanced life, giving my best to school work, exercise, and social activities. • Successes of the above?

  6. Don’t Sound Desperate • I am really looking for a more permanent position as an apprentice hairdresser, and I hope your salon will help me start my career. • Problems with the above? • Alternate Version: I am looking forward to embarking on a career in hairdressing, and your salon is a great starting point. • Successes of the above?

  7. Turn Negatives (that have to be stated) Into Positives • Often in Job interviews you are asked, “What’s one of your weaknesses?” • Quality: Never gets work in on time. • Answer: When I'm working on a project, if I’m forced to choose between meeting a deadline and delivering quality work I will always choose quality. • Quality: Disorganised. • Answer: Being organisedisn't my strongest point, but I implement management systems that help my organisation skills.

  8. Turn Negatives (that have to be stated) Into Positives • Quality: Control freak. • Answer: I tend to be a perfectionist and take on tasks personally that could easily be delegated to someone else. Although I've never missed a deadline, I am teaching myself to know when to move on to the next task, and to assign work to others when necessary. • Quality: Can only cope with one assignment per subject. • Answer: I used to work on one project to its completion before starting on another, but I've learned I can be more creative and effective if I have multiple projects running at the same time.
