  1. WiMAX Forum Evaluation Group (WFEG) for IMT-Advanced San Diego F2F Meeting Summary I-Kang Fu, MediaTek Inc. IK.Fu@mediatek.com 12 January 2010

  2. Outline • F2F Meeting Agenda • WFEG Progress Review and Status Update • Conclusion on Inspection over IEEE’s RIT Proposal • Discussion on Updated Simulation Results • Discussion on Next Step

  3. F2F Meeting Agenda • Meeting time slot and agenda • 1/12 PM7:00~PM10:00 Room "Portofino A“ at Hyatt Regency La Jolla • Review Comments on IEEE’s RIT Proposal • Discuss the conclusion on inspection and analysis on IEEE’s RIT Proposal • Review the updated simulation results • Discuss the way to conclude the simulation results for possible validation on IEEE’s self-evaluation results • Objective of San Diego F2F • Conclude the comments on IEEE’s RIT proposal • Tentatively conclude the simulation results and WFEG’s view on IEEE’s self-evaluation result • Determine the way to officially conclude WFEG’s evaluation results on IEEE’s RIT proposal

  4. WFEG Progress Review and Status Update • Progress achieved during Taipei Member Conference and San Diego F2F Meeting • 2009/10/30 WFEG Presentation to TSC during Taipei Member Conference • 2009/11/11 Issue Call for Questions on Simulation Assumption • 2009/11/23 Question Submission Deadline [No question received] • 2009/11/24 Issue Call for Calibration Results and Preliminary Simulation Results • 2009/12/6 Calibration and Preliminary Simulation Results Submission Deadline • Calibration results received from five companies • Preliminary results received from four companies • Issue call for comments on RIT proposal and updated simulation result • 2009/12/17,18 WFEG Representatives attended 3GPP Workshop for the IEGs • WFEG evaluation progress was shared with other IEGs • WFEG Status Update • 63 WiMAX Forum members subscribed WFEG

  5. Conclusion on Inspection over IEEE’s RIT Proposal • No comments received before the submission deadline • Submission deadline: 2010/1/11 PCT • No comments raised during San Diego F2F meeting • WFEG’s conclusion following inspection of IEEE’s RIT proposal • No inconsistency, ambiguity or inaccuracy were found in IEEE’s RIT proposal • The conclusion covers the analytical results of IEEE’s RIT proposal • WFEG found IEEE’s description of the technology to be adequate

  6. Discussion on Updated Simulation Results • Preliminary simulation results received from four companies • Intel: results for all entries required by M.2133 • LG: results for UMi and UMa for the corresponding entries in M.2133 • MediaTek: results for UMa for the corresponding entries in M.2133 • Samsung: results for all entries required by M.2133

  7. Discussion on Updated Simulation Results • Updated simulation results received • LGE • Intel, Samsung, LGE, MediaTek, KDDI, UQC, ITRI

  8. Discussion on Updated Simulation Results • Evaluation on IEEE’s Self Evaluation Results • Tentatively confirm IEEE’s self evaluation results • Base on the received independent simulation results from WFEG members • All the results show that IEEE’s RIT proposal can exceed IMT-Advanced requirements • More simulation results is expected before the end of January 2010 • Comment on LBT in IEEE’s self evaluation results • UL control channel bandwidth is different from technical description in IEEE’s RIT proposal • WFEG members believe the uplink control channel coverage of IEEE’s self evaluation results will be improved as result of this correction

  9. Discussion on Next Step • Attend IEEE 802.16 IMT-Advanced Evaluation Group Coordination Meeting • Share WFEG evaluation progress with other IEGs • Finalize the evaluation on IEEE’s RIT proposal • Feb. 1 2010 5PM PCT • 1 hour conference call • Review possible updates on simulation results from members • Members should send out simulation updates before Jan. 31 2010 • Objective to possibly conclude WFEG’s validation of IEEE’s self-evaluation results • ITU-R WP5D Meeting in Feb. 2010 • Dr. Sassan Ahmadi will attend this meeting on behalf of WFEG
