  2. CELEBRATE!! 50TH WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE 50 YEARS OF AL-ANON’S GROUP CONSCIENCE Let them have cake!

  3. Board of Trustees’ BIG QUESTION • What Spiritual growth can the fellowship celebrate as a result of 50 years of its informed group conscience as expressed through the World Service Conference? • How has it expanded our circle of HOPE?

  4. NEW Service Manual –Fall 2010 • Reorganization of Digest of Al-Anon and Alateen Policies • Adding Alateen section that combines all Alateen statements • Update to language on use of outside literature • Moving the Finance section • Adjusted the language about group names

  5. Diversity • Without outreach to diverse groups and culture, Al-Anon may not last • The average Al-Anon member is: A 58 year old white woman!

  6. Diversity Leadership Workshop • How to reach minorities in our area? • Area project – outreach to a selected group – focusing our energy • Do you welcome minority members to your group? • How do we reach out to increase the diversity of our fellowship?

  7. WSC Restructuring Thought Force • Area’s Purpose – to server the groups through communication, participation, and representation • 1- Plot all of the groups on a map to see where they actually are. • 2- Allow areas with more than 400 groups to divide. • 3- Allow smaller areas to combine.

  8. Legacies Workbook Literature committee requested permission to develop a Legacies Workbook like the Blueprint for Progress based on sharings from the online members blogs. The workbook would include the steps, traditions and the concepts. The conference approved this unanimously.

  9. FORUM • Back in the Black – new subscriptions this year have brought it back • YOU LIKE IT! YOU REALLY LIKIE IT!!! • California added 700 new subscriptions (+35%) more than any other state. We still only have 1.9 subscriptions per meeting.

  10. Alateen Chat rooms • These are now available for areas to start having online Alateen meetings. Two have started but very little attendance so far. They are moderated for the protection of the teens.

  11. Open Policy Committee Meeting • Topic discussed – Groups that do not follow the traditions and may affect Al-Anon as a whole. • Should WSO create a ‘Do Not Refer’ list based on the area’s recommendation. Meeting that an area has delisted would not be used by WSO for phone referrals. • WSO will not delist any meetings.

  12. Conflict Resolution Task Force • Develop tool for the areas to use for Conflict Resolution 1 – Workshop on using the traditions and Paths to Recovery for Conflict Resolution. 2 – Powerpoint presentation 3 – Literature piece to be completed.

  13. Vancouver 2013 • Al-Anon’s International Convention • July 2013 in Vancouver, Canada • Does Northern California want to: • Take the Train? • Take a Plane? • Take a Bus? • Take a Cruise!!?

  14. Al-Anon and Technology • Are you afraid of computers? • Do you know how to use: Excel? Word? • How do you learn? • Ask for help!! Al-Anon’s best and most abundant resource is its membership

  15. How can we use technology to server our area and groups? • Teleconferencing – when to use? • Videoconferencing – When to use and how to use? • Lone member outreach? • Chat rooms? • Skyppe? Computer to Computer conferencing

  16. 2011 World Service Conference • Panel 49 goes to Steping Stones on Sunday, then Virginia Beach. • Conference in Virginia Beach 4/11-4/15 • 4/16 – Celebration at WSO Al-Anon’s 60th Birthday
