There are FOUR basic types of motion:

Motion

Something which travels in a perfectly straight line has linear motion

List some things that have linear motion:

  • Repeating backwards and forwards motion in a straight line is known as reciprocating motion

Circular movement is known as rotary motion

List some things that have rotary motion:

Fixed point

  • Repeating backwards and forwards circular movement is called oscillating motion
