  3. Steps to Getting Certified • Determine which Level to start at • Selecting the exam format (on-line or paper) • Finding a proctor and a test site • Fill out the Application and send it in • See “Setting up a CST Training Program” power point

Step 1:Which Level to Start At • How many years in the industry? • doing what type of work? • How many credits of “formal” education? • How many credits of “formal” Surveying education? • Decide which track you want to follow – Field or Office. • Can start at level for which experience requirement is met. • Level IV applicant must possess a Level III certification.

  5. Assessing Your Education • Use the following for converting educational credits into hours of experience: 1 Semester credit = 31.25 hours 1 Quarter credit = 20.83 hours 1 CEU = 15.62 hours (1 CEU is 10 class hours based on national standard)

  6. Assessing Your Knowledge/Experience Level Level I – Entry Level Level II – 1.5 years experience required Level III – 3.5 years experience required Level IV – 5.5 years experience required (no sample exam) Now take the Sample Exam that corresponds with your combined education and experience

  7. Starting with Level I Sample Exam is recommend for those examinees that are unsure of themselves. Answers and Solutions are provided at the end of sample tests

  9. STEP 3: Now that you know which exam you are going to take and pass you need to find someone to proctor your exam.

  10. Finding a Proctor and Test Site • Go To nsps.us.com Web site • Go to “CST” section on the Web site • Select “CST Board Member and State Coordinators” • Select your “State” and get contact information for your local state coordinator • OR call your local CST Board Member

  11. Step 4: Fill out the Application and send it in
