Instructional Leadership (conventionally understood)Principals: • Develop school mission and goals • Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate curriculum, instruction, and assessment • Promote climate for learning • Create supportive work environment • Infuse educational meaning into routine school work • Often paternalistic, resulting in dependent teachers
Shared Instructional Leadership • Inclusive concept, compatible with empowered teachers • Principal maintains congruence and consistency of educational program • Principal invests teachers with resources and instructional support • Teachers have requisite expertise and information • Teachers assume leadership and work collaboratively with principal
