  3. Core Committee Core Committee is an advisory committee established by School Board Policy 5.30 Representatives include: • PTA Representatives • SAC Representatives • Principals • District Level Staff

  4. Core Committee Role • Develop plans which divide Longwood Elementary attendance zone among four neighboring school attendance zones • Consider public input (plans & suggestions) • Recommend plan(s) to the Superintendent

  6. MEETING/PROCESS GUIDELINES • Work together • Respect perspectives of all Core Committee members • Seriously consider input from the public • Expedite the process

Board Policy - Rezoning • Rezoning: - A rezoning is a realignment of school geographical attendance based on a student‘s residence. • This policy can be found at: • www.scps.us (Home page) • Click on “School Board” tab • Click on drop-down “Policies & Procedures” • Click on Board Policies • Click on Chapter 5 & scroll to 5.30

  8. Procedures • Identify specific geography areas or study areas that could shift from one attendance zone to another. • The District has provided demographic data for each cell (student enrollment, free/reduced lunch %). • Core Committee will develop plans for consideration, and measure each plan to insure equitable free/reduced lunch percentages and enrollment will not exceed school capacity.

  9. Parameters • The plan assigns students to the closest school to the extent practicable • Plan keeps subdivisions and small neighborhood units in the same attendance zone to the extent practical • Plan creates compact attendance zones with few or no island areas • Plan includes target enrollments that allow for growth

  10. Communications • The District will inform the community and the affected schools regarding the assignment process, schedule, and methods for public input. • The School Board’s web-site, Seminole Government TV, and local media will be utilized for communication.

  11. Core Committee Responsibilities • The Core Committee will develop and revise its plans, consider public input, and submit recommendations to the Superintendent • The Superintendent may develop alternative plans for consideration by the Board

  12. The Final Decision • The Superintendent shall submit a recommendation to the Board. • The Board will take action on the Superintendent’s recommendation and makes the final decision.

Timeline SUSPENSION OF OPERATIONS TIMELINE LONGWOOD ELEMENTARY April 19 Information item to SB May 10 • Al to recommend Suspension of Operation • Al to initiate rezone Core Committee May 19 Core Committee Meeting May 25 Core Committee Meeting June 2 Core Committee Meeting June 7 • SB Work Session to review all rezone plans • Special SB Meeting where Superintendent recommends plan for preliminary approval and request permission to advertise June 8 Advertisement of selected plan; Ad runs June 12 July 12 • Public Hearing • Special SB Meeting to Adopt Rezone Plan
