  1. Geoff Ballard’s Vancouver based company Ballard Power Systems Inc., developed a Hydrogen Fuel Cell that powers the Vancouver Transit buses. Clean driving, no air pollution!

  2. In 1992 Paul Brown and Anie Galipeau invented a wind-up Walkman that uses no batteries. The “Green Walkman” will play up to 45 minutes at a constant speed before needing to be rewound. They are presently working on a CD version and possibly cell phone and pager versions.

  3. Clint Bendict of the Montreal Maroons invented a leather and wire goalie mask in the late 1920’s. He wore it only once because he found it too difficult to play while wearing it. In the 1960’s Jacques Plante of the Montreal Canadiens invented a more practical mask made of moulded fiberglass that covered his whole face.

His invention was so good that any “copies” attempted by competitors could not last as long. Soon train engineers asked only for “the real McCoy”. He patented over 50 inventions in his lifetime.

  9. SPACE ARM Developed in Brampton Ontario at Spar Aerospace Ltd., the Canadarm has been part of every shuttle mission since 1981. In 1998 the new version of the “arm” was installed on the International Space Station.
