  1. Zoom-In: Depression Era Understanding Goal: We make inferences and predictions based on the available clues and our background knowledge. Investigative Question: What inferences can we make about the hardships of the Great Depression in different areas of the United States?

  2. Inferring Clues + Background Knowledge = Inferring

  3. Describe the clues you see in the picture.

  4. Add more clues to your list. Using your background knowledge, what can you tell about this picture?

  5. Look carefully at the person in the picture. Describe his action, mannerism, clothes, or other character trait that comes to mind.

  6. Describe the details that confirm or change your original prediction. Using your clues and knowledge, what can you infer about the time period and action of this photograph. Tell a partner.
