  2. Requirements • 30 min oral presentation + 10 min discussion • Outline with contents and their assignment to the respective participant • Full paper (10 -12 pages) • Presence of all students for all presentations send materials to leopold@wzw.tum.de

  3. Subjects (Group 1) • Basics of soil science - Soil genesis, properties and soil functions, (soil pH and redox properties, sorption and cation exchange, anion exchange) - Soil erosion and soil structure, soil water - Soil protection and legislative requirements

  4. Subjects (Group 2) • Pollutants in soil Inorganic pollutants, organic pollutants, risk assessment, binding and mobility of inorganic pollutants, binding and mobility of organic pollutants, bioavailability and toxicity

  5. Subjects (Group 3) • Case studies - Radionuclides contamination with focus on 137Cs derived from the Tschernobyl fallout - Heavy metal contamination in historic mining areas - Waste rock piles – renaturation and possible contaminations of soils - N-input to forest soils

  6. Subjects (Group 4) • Application - Compost application to soils - Liquid manure application to farmland - Sewage sludge application to soils

  7. Preparation of presentation • Overview through literature research • Focusing on the subject: • Short overview about total subject • More detail about selected areas • No more slights than minutes for the presentation

  8. Themes of presentation • Basics of soil science • A review of soil genesis, soil properties, soil functions along with soil sorption, • anion and cation exchange capacity • 2) Soil structure and soil erosion • 3) Soil legislation and protection: basic review of the literature • Pollutants in soil • 4) Organic pollutants • Inorganic pollutants • Case studies • 6) Radionuclides contamination with focus on 137Cs derived from the Tschernobyl fallout • 7) Heavy metal contamination in historic mining areas • 8) Waste rock piles – renaturation and possible contaminations of soils • N-input to forest soils • Application • 10) Compost application to soils • 11) Liquid manure application to farmland • 12) Sewage sludge application to soils • 13) Excavation material application to soils • Discussion and Conclusion Remarks
