  1. HOLDING FAST THE CONFESSION OF OUR HOPE WITHOUT WAVERING: Text: Hebrews 10:19-39 Intro: Romans 10:9 “…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved.” Would we be able to hold our confession? Aim: For us to be able to hold fast our confession without wavering and receive the promise of God.

  2. I. Why do we need to hold fast on our confession? • Because He who promised is faithful-v 23 • We have access to the Holiest through the blood of Jesus-v 19 • We have a new and living way which He consecrated for us-v 20 • We have a High Priest over the house of God-v 21 • If we don’t hold fast, we will draw back-v 38 1. If we draw back, we will sin wilfully -v 26 2. If we sin wilfully, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins-v 26 3. There’s a certain fearful expectation of judgment-v 27

  3. 4.There’s a fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 5. Those who reject Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses-v 28 6. If you sin wilfully, you have trampled the Son of God underfoot-v 29 7. You counted the blood of the covenant a common thing-v 29 8. You insulted the Spirit of grace-v 29 9. If you draw back, vengeance is of the Lord-v 30 10. He will let everyone repay-v 30 11. He will judge His people-v 30 -He is no longer our saviour 12. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God-v 31 13. God has no pleasure to those who draw back-v 38

  4. II. How could we hold fast on our confession without wavering? A. Draw near to Him: 1. With a true heart-v 22 2. With full assurance of faith-v 22 3. With a heart sprinkled from evil conscience-v 22 4. With bodies washed with pure water. B. Consider one another in order to stir up: 1. Love 2. Good works

  5. C. By not forsake the assembling of ourselves/fellowship/gathering together in church. 1. This is the manner of the believers. 2. Exhorting one another 3. The day of the Lord is approaching; Rom 13:11 “…for now our salvation is nearer than we first believed.” D. Recall the former days after you were illuminated. 1. You endured a great struggle with sufferings. 2. Partly because you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulation-v 33 3. Partly because you became companions of those who treated so-v 33 4. Recall the joy you had even when giving up your goods-v 34

  6. E. Do not cast away your confidence-v 35 1. This has great reward 2. Those who believe in the Lord will not be put to shame-Romans 10:11 F. Endure doing the will of God-v 36; Matt 10:22 1. It is by enduring that you receive the promise. 2. His coming will be a little while-v 37 3. He who is coming will come and will not tarry-v 37 4. You have a better possessions for yourselves in heaven-v 34 G. Live by faith-v 38 H. Be not one of those who draw back to perdition, but to those who believe to the saving of the soul-v 39

  7. Challenge: Are you holding your confession? Are you still the same when you first know the Lord? Are you growing in your relationship with the Lord? Are you not wavering from your hope/faith? Conclusion: Hebrews 10:39 “But we are not one of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”
