  1. Corporate Insanity • “Insanity is doing the same thing the same way and expecting different results” • Pragmatism dominates our mindset • Implicit – if our methods and ways do not work, try something different (new) • Danger: 2 Timothy 4:3-4

  2. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 • For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

  3. It Is Amazing… • To watch how easily a Christian, committed to significant service in God’s Kingdom and convinced he is doing God’s gets discouraged and quits when things do not work out. • He is yielded to God’s Purposes • He has submitted to God’s Plan • He is obedient to God • When anything goes wrong, he quits

  4. Significant Servants Experiencing the Power of God

  5. Where We Have Been • Step 1: We must understand and yield to God’s Eternal Purposes • He is working to glorify Himself by redeeming people and transforming them to be like Christ • Step 2: We must discern the general and specific plans God has for us • Step 3: We must develop the ERQ of obedience (costly and risky)

  6. ERQs for God’s Servants • ERQ: Essential, Reproducible Quality • Essential – Required by God; without it, God does not use someone significantly • Reproducible – Not unique to one person; it is something that we can imitate or learn

  7. The ERQ • The first Essential, Reproducible Quality is obedience • God demanded from Significant Servants a costly, risky obedience • Costly – God’s plan for your life is seldom easy • Risky – If God does not act, you will die! (or suffer tremendous hurt or hardship)

  8. Step 4: The Second ERQ • Noah • How long do you keep doing what God told you do when what God said would happen isn’t happening? • Until the rains come! • Abraham • How long do you wait for the promises of God to come true? • Until the promise comes!

  9. Joseph • Joseph was ostracized by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, wrongly imprisoned and unfairly forgotten. • How long do you keep serving God when everything is going wrong? • Until the day God makes it right! • Moses • How long do you keep going when everyone hates you? • Until God demonstrates his favor!

  10. Second ERQ: Perseverance • Obedience to the call of God is not a guarantee that everything will go smoothly • When you obey, circumstances will often lead you to believe that what God said is not true • Hardships discourage, time disheartens, opposition withers us • The great works are accomplished by those who do what God says and keep doing it when it gets hard!

  11. Insanity? • “Insanity is doing the same thing the same way and expecting different results” • If you are following God’s purposes and plans, it is not insanity, but perseverance. • Jonathan Edwards

  12. The Greatest Example? • Genesis 22:1-3 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

  13. Why Don’t We See God’s Power? • Because we are generally unwilling to act in costly, risky obedience to follow God’s plan for our lives! • We stand at the River waiting for God to stop the flow. • We must step into the River before the miracle occurs • We want the full blessings of God’s power with partial or minimal obedience

  14. The Path to Significance • The Significant Servant goes where God tells him to go! • The Significant Servant does what God tells him to do! • The Significant Servant says what God tells him to say! • The Significant Servant’s Prayer • Lord, whatever, whenever, wherever. Amen!
