  2. Organizations We Compete In Texas Forensic Association (aka TFA) National Speech and Debate Association(aka NSDA) University Interscholastic League (aka UIL)

Texas Forensics Association aka TFA txfa.weebly.com Numerous qualifying tournaments throughout the year Students must earn a minimum of 12 points in order to qualify for TFA State Points are earned by advancing to quarters, semis, and finals in debate, OR finals of individual events TFA State is in March (El Paso)

  4. Texas Forensics Association • TFA State Qualifying Events: • Debate: Congress, LD, PF, CX • Public Speaking: OO, FX, DX • Speech: HI, DI, Duo, Duet • TFA State Non-Qualifying Events: • Debate: Senate • Public Speaking: Impromptu • Speech: Prose, Poetry

National Speech and Debate Association aka NSDA speechanddebate.org A national honor society ONE qualifying tournament in the spring Place 1st or 2nd and qualify for Nationals Must be an NFL member to compete at the qualifying tournament Students need 25 NFL points to be a member (earn points simply by competing) Nationals in June (Dallas, TX)

  7. University Interscholastic League aka UIL uiltexas.org One district qualifier in El Paso One regional qualifier in Lubbock One state meet in Austin Must place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd to advance Students only compete against other students from their school’s division (Coronado is division 5A)

University Interscholastic League • Qualifying Events: • Debate: LD and CX (district straight to State) • Public Speaking: Informative and Persuasive (follow the same rules as extemp) • Speech: Prose and Poetry • TESTING: Congress (compete with all divisions – straight to State) • No Non-Qualifying Events
