Elements of Art • The basic components used by an artist when producing works of art. • The elements include line, shape, value, texture, and color. • The Elements of Art are the foundation of Art and Photography. • We have already discussed Line and Texture as Elements of Art. • Today we are going to continue look at Color as well as Value.
Color • Color is the visual sensation dependant on the reflection or absorption of light from a given surface. • Color Theory is an element of art. Color has three properties: hue, value, and intensity
Value • Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. Value is an element of art. • Low Value is dark. • High Value is light.
Monochromatic Color/Theme • Monochromatic Colorschemes use only one color of various values. • In art and photography, a theme is a subject or topic in an artistic work.
Tints, Tones and Shades: What’s the Difference? • In a Monochromatic Color scheme we use any single color plus tints, shades and tones of the same color. For example orange with black, white and grey added. • A tintis a color to which white was added. • A shade is a color to which black was added. • A tone is a color to which grey was added. Your Assignment…. • Use photography to visually display the Element of Arts known as Color and Value in the subcategory of Monochromatic Color Schemes. • Take 5-7 photographs on campus. Zoom in and adjust your body as needed to get the angle you want. • If needed you will then use Photoshop to manipulate the colors so that you can create a Monochromatic Color Scheme.
Monochromatic Color Assignment • Objective: Show a Monochromatic Color Scheme in photography • Requirements: • 5 finished original photos that clearly show a Monochromatic Color Scheme • If needed, in Photoshop, Image Adjustment, Black and White. • Image Adjustment Color Balance to select the monochromatic color scheme of your choice. • Composition shows thought and creativity • Save your finished photos in your Finished Work Folder • Save as, Monochromatic Color 1, MonochromaticColor 2, Monochromatic Color 3, Monochromatic Color 4, Monochromatic Color 5.
