  1. Vocabulary Week One: Using context clues, provide a definition of the underlined word. 1. My teacher had to admonish me because I was disturbing the class, but isn't it the job of the class clown to disrupt things? 2. By not paying your rent each month, you are executing a breach of contract. 3. Even though the potential investor liked the business proposal, he was circumspect about investing so much money. 4. The crew on the stage had to move the cumbersome scenery during the play. It is a good thing that they are strong. 5. After the plane crashed into the oil tanker, there was so much debris strewn about it was hard to find the bodies.

  2. Definitions for week one words • Admonish: (verb) to warn or reprimand someone firmly; to advise or urge • Breach: (noun) an act of breaking or failing to observe a law, agreement, or code of conduct • Circumspect: (adjective) wary and unwilling to take risk • Cumbersome: (adjective) large or heavy and therefore difficult to carry or use • Debris: (noun) scattered pieces of waste or remains

  3. Analogies • An analogy compares two pairs of words that are related in the same way. Below are some different types of analogies with examples: • Synonyms: find is to discover as begin is to start • Antonyms: serious is to funny as huge is to tiny • Object/Action: scissors is to cut as eraser is to erase • Part to Whole: toe is to foot as finger is to hand

Definitions for week two words • Perennial (adjective): lasting or existing for a long or apparently infinite time; enduring or continually recurring. • Predispose (verb): make someone liable or inclined to a specified attitude, action, or condition. • Relinquish (verb): voluntarily cease to keep or claim; give up. • Spurious (adjective): not being what it says to be; false; not valid • Unbridled (adjective): Uncontrolled/unconstrained

  36. Week Five Code Break • There are 11 sheets of paper around the room with sentences on them. For each sentence, you will need to fill in the blank with the correct vocabulary word. You need to write the words out on your answer sheet. When you go to the first sheet, you will need to write the word next to answer one. (You can go to the sheets of paper around the room in any order. ) • For each sheet you go to, it will tell you that one of the letters correlates with a specific blank for the code. (Example: The 2nd letter of the word goes in blank 7). Therefore, if the word that goes in the blank is notable, the “o” would go in blank 7. • Keep in mind you are trying to be the first to identify the code, so while you are at each sheet of paper, once you identify which would fits in the blank, do not say it out loud. Be as DISCREET as possible!

  37. How to win? • After you have gone to all 11 sheets of paper, you will have all the letters to break the code. However, if you get a word wrong, your code will not be right. • When you think you have the code, go to the phone table, get your phone, take a picture of your sheet, and send it to my email: kduck@gcssd.org. • The first person who sends me the correct code wins.
