  3. Belgian Flower Carpet FestivalProject

  4. Purpose of the Project Students will be working on finding the area and perimeter of parallelograms, rectangles, triangles, and trapezoids.

  5. Last year Salena and her family went to Belgium for their family vacation.  While they were sightseeing in Brussels, they realized that there was a festival going on.  This wasn't just any kind of festival, but the Belgian Flower Carpet Festival!!  The streets were lined with beautiful carpets made of flowers.  It was the most beautiful and fascinating thing that Salena had ever seen!

  6. Salena was so inspired by the Flower Carpet Festival that she decided to make a flower carpet in her backyard.  Salena has a large backyard, so she sectioned off an area of 100 square feet to put her flower carpet.  The only problem is, she doesn't know what shape to make her carpet.TASK:  Help Salena decide on a shape for her flower carpet by creating 4 shaped carpets that would fit within the 100 square feet she marked off in her yard.  She will also need to place a border around her carpet and the best price that she has found is $6.00 per foot for the border.-Sketch 4 shapes using a maximum area of 100 sq.ft.  (triangle, rectangle, parallelogram, & trapezoid) -Include measurements and calculate the area.-Calculate the cost for the border of each design-Determine the most cost effective design-Make a suggestion to Salena about which design she should use and explain why you think that she should use that design.

  7. You will be given 1 sheet of graph paper to create the 4 figures (triangle, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid).  When drawing the figure make sure the picture would be its best name. For instance, a square is a rectangle, but the best name of the shape is a square not a rectangle. So you cannot draw a square for your rectangle. -Using the maximum area 100 sq. ft for each figure, create 4 designs and include their measurements.  When measuring your designs, use a ruler. -Label your base(s) and heights and highlight them in the appropriate color. • Calculate the area of each shape. • -Calculate the cost of border for each design. $6 = 1 foot • -Complete the Recommendation form for Salena. You may upload to google classroom under Belgian Flower Carpet Festival.
