  4. What is a Civilization? Round Robin Reading: p. 41 of History Alive. 1. Define the bolded terms. 2. Examine the Standard of Ur on p. 40. Write a paragraph to tell the story of what it is depicting.

  10. Steps for Analyzing Artifacts • Roll dice to determine which characteristic to read about. Roll again if you land on a section you’ve already read. • SILENTLY read the corresponding section in chapter 5 of History Alive. (3 minutes) • Examine the artifacts and read the archeologist’s notes. Find as many artifacts as possible that are examples of the characteristics of civilization you just read about. • Complete the READING NOTES for your section. For each artifact you choose, make a simple sketch and complete the sentence about how it relates to that characteristic of civilization. (Only need to draw each artifact once throughout packet)

  11. Read p. 43 of History Alive • Together, we will practice the steps for analyzing an ancient Sumerian artifact.

  12. IN your small groups, complete the “Steps for analyzing artifacts” and Reading Notes

  13. Last ONE standing: • Mr. T will select an artifact. • Check your Reading Notes. • Team Captain stand if you used this artifact as evidence on one or more of the characteristics of civilization. • Two or more…. • Three or more… • Four or more… • Five or more… • Six or more…
