3GPP and SIP-AAA requirements

This presentation discusses the relationships between 3GPP and SIP-AAA, commonalities with 3GPP2, and the requirements and approach for implementing SIP-AAA in 3GPP. It also covers the documentation structure and content for 3GPP, along with the goals for incorporating AAA into a SIP environment.

  1. 3GPP and SIP-AAA requirements 3GPP CN4 WG Presented: Johanna Wild Motorola GmbH mailto:Johanna.Wild@motorola.com

  2. Overview • 3GPP Relationships - SIP AAA • 3GPP 3GPP2 Commonalities • 3GPP Requirements • 3GPP Approach • 3GPP Documentation Structure • 3GPP Documentation Content • 3GPP Goals

  3. Visited GGSN SGSN RAN 3GPP Relationships SIP-AAA (What do we have in 3GPP?) • SIP proxy servers (S-CSCF, I-CSCF) with requirements for authentication and authorization • A Home Subscriber Server (HSS) containing subscriber/service/security profiles relevant for SIP proxies. Cx interface based on Diameter SIP proxies get authorisation and authentication information Home HSS S-CSCF REGISTER/INVITE I-CSCF REGISTER/INVITE P-CSCF REGISTER/INVITE SIP proxy servers SIP-based interfaces

  4. 3GPP-3GPP2 points in common (What we already have in draft-calhoun-sip-aaa-reqs) Location database AAAH Cx HSS (3GPP) 6. AAA Request 7. AAA Resp 3. AAA Req 4. AAA Resp Anchor SIP proxy (S-CSCF) SIP Central Point of Contact - SCPC (I-CSCF) 5. SIP REGISTER 8. 200 OK 9. 200 OK 2. SIP REGISTER SIP Point of Contact Visited - SPCV (P-CSCF) 10. 200 OK 1. SIP REGISTER SIP Client

  5. 3GPP Requirements(What we have to add todraft-calhoun-sip-aaa-reqs?) • When the SCPC receives SIP REGISTER it will issue a AAA message to the Home AAA Server (AAAH). The AAA message may include information from the SIP message (e.g. From…) • In 3GPP the SCPC shall select an Anchor SIP proxy for the user, which will act as the client's assigned SIP server (registrar). • In 3GPP the authorization period maynot be controlled by the AAA server. • Location query using AAA infrastructure: In 3GPP theSCPC shall send an authorization request to the AAAH, in order to determine whether the session can be established and to find the location of the Anchor SIP server and SIP Client

  6. 3GPP Requirements (What we have to add todraft-calhoun-sip-aaa-reqs?) • The AAA infrastructure MUST be able to distribute (push or pull) subscriber/service/security profiles to the relevant SIP servers based on policies. • The AAAH MUST be able to update the location of the assigned SIP server for the user performing SIP registration to the location database. • The AAAH MUST be able to initiate user de-registration. • The AAAH MUST be able to distribute relevant information to the SCPC for the selection of the appropriate Anchor SIP proxy for the user.

  7. 3GPP Approach(How will we go for it?) • AAA WG is developing Diameter applications based on requirements defined by other WGs (ROAMOPS, NASREQ). SIPPING is the right WG to develop the requirements for the connection of SIP nodes to AAA infrastructure. • We will bring the new requirements to extend draft-calhoun-sip-aaa-reqs to the SIPPING email list. • We will use the requirements to develop a new Diameter application in the AAA WG. • The new Diameter application would be referenced from 3GPP technical specifications following the structure shown in the following slides

  8. 3GPP Documentation Structure (A picture) 3GPP IETF TS 23.228 (SA2) DRAFT 3G-SIP-AAA (SIPPING) TS 24.228 (CN1) TS 29.228 (CN4) TS 29.229 (CN4) DRAFT 3GPP-DMA (AAA)

  9. 3GPP Documentation Content (A list of content lists) • 3G TS 23.228 – “IP Multimedia Subsystem – Stage 2” • High level concepts and requirements • Architectural framework • High level end-to-end information flow samples • 3G TS 24.228 - “ Signaling flows for the IP Multimedia call control based on SIP and SDP – Stage 2/3” • End-to-end signaling flows for IP Multimedia Call Control • Interactions with flows over the interface to the Application Servers • Interactions with flows over the Cx interface

  10. 3GPP Documentation Content (Another list of content lists) • 3G TS 29.228 • Use cases for the Cx interface • Operations over the Cx interface • Mapping of Cx operations and related parameters to Diameter Commands and AVPs • Mapping 3GPP node names to IETF names • Pointers to protocol details specifications • 3G TS 29.229 • Description of Diameter Base Protocol Usage • Definition of Diameter Multimedia Application Commands and Result Code AVPs • Definition of Diameter Multimedia Application AVPs • Overlap with planned draft-czoma-diameter-multimedia-application-00.txt

  11. 3GPP Documentation Content (The last list of content lists) • draft-calhoun-sip-aaa-reqs-02.txt • Common 3GPP and 3GPP2 AAA requirements for IP Multimedia applications based on SIP and SDP • Specific 3GPP2 AAA requirements for IP Multimedia applications based on SIP and SDP • Specific 3GPP AAA requirements for IP Multimedia applications based on SIP and SDP • planned draft-czoma-diameter-multimedia-application-00.txt • Definition of Diameter Multimedia Application Commands and Result Code AVPs • Definition of Diameter Multimedia Application AVPs • Overlap with 3G TS 29.229

  12. 3GPP Goals(What else do we need?) • To re-introduce the AAA requirements including 3GPP in a SIP environment to the charter of SIPPING WG. • To include the AAA requirements including 3GPP in a SIP environment to the list of deliverables of SIPPING WG. • The draft-calhoun-sip-aaa-reqs should be stable by November 2001 in order to serve as a basis of the work in AAA WG in time. • The draft-czoma-diameter-multimedia-application based on these requirements, planned for September 2001 submission to the AAA WG, needs to go to proposed standards status within a timescale which will allow for it, to be referenced by 3GPP.
