  1. The Chlorophile Scenario Comprising values in Montenegrin and Albanian coastal zone Adriatic Coast in points Boka Kotorska and Durres Elona Bahiti, Leli Tesho, Marilda Osmani, Anila Gezhilli, Dorina Tesho. University “A. Xhuvani” Elbasan, Albania

  2. Introduction • Similarly to other coastal environments throughout the world, the Albanian Adriatic coast represents an area of rapid population growth and changing land-use patterns that have led to increases in eutrophication levels and changes in freshwater flow characteristics to coastal waters that have been especially evidenced in several last decades. • The Albanian Adriatic region is characterized by : • intensive coastal activities mainly construction • a typical urban growth and development • commercial and recreational activities, tourism etc.

  3. Material and Method • In order to get more detailed information for eutrophication in the Adriatic Sea we analyze several water samples in the area of Boka Kotorska bay (Montenegro) and Durres area (Albania)

  4. The water samples were collected in two locations (with several stations) of the Eastern Adriatic namely Kotor Bay (five stations) and Golem area (three stations) from the surface using special 2l bottles. The samples have been after storage in the fridge, directly preceded in the laboratory for filtration and further analyses via Spectrophotometric Method. The concentration of chlorophyll was determined by filtration through Whatman GF/F 0.45 µm.

  5. Results and Discussions • In nowadays in this part of Adriatic it should be considered seriously the cumulative effect of the various activities to the overall coastal marine ecosystems. • The water mass exchange between the northern region and the remainder of the essentially oligotrophic Adriatic, as well as the major influence of Ionian water in the south, has a great influence on the productivity and standing crops of different sub-areas. • Following the analyses related to the Ariatic coast, the northern Adriatic has been recognized for many years as a region of high marine production at several trophic levels from phytoplankton to fish, but recently the external nutrient input is thought by some authors to be the source of the eutrophication problem of this area

  6. Figure . Chlorofile a values in (a)Boka Kotorska bay and (b) Durres port area. Values are given in mg/m3. Analysing the values of the south Adriatic coast we see that the values are higher. So in the Durres area the maximum value is 6.2. mg m-3 and the minimum one 5.11(mg m-3). On the other hand in Montenegrianian coast in site location Kotor the respective values are 6.4 and 4.1 (mg m-3). Looking to the overal patterns and hyrological features of the Boko Kotorska bay they increased eutrophication level is due to the natural phenomena of eutrofication, while in Albanian side it is directly reflecting the nutrient load and intensife antropogenic influence.

  7. Conclusion • In the last two decades the watersheds of the Albanian part of the Adriatic Sea is an area of rapid population growth and changing land-use patterns that have led to increases in nutrient loading and productivity rate manifested in the chlorophile a levels. • The origine of an increased level of eutrophication in Albanian coast seems to be diretly related to the human influence, while in Montenegrinian coast it comes out from the natural conditions. • In integretaed coast management approach should be developed in order to control the direct human influence to the eutrophication procesess.
