  2. Romanticism • Romanticism was a literary, artistic, and intellectual movement of the late 17th century and 18th century. • The elements of this period are imagination, exoticness, and emotion, not always love though.

  3. Picture of the Romantic Period • In this picture the fog gives you a mysterious quality to the piece. The man standing alone also give it a lonely emotion.

  4. Realism • Realism was a reaction to romanticism, and can be described as “the faithful representation of reality”. This movement presents the realness of life and not all the sugar coated goodness of the romantic period. • The elements are extensive detail of life, character is more important than action and plot. The events in the work are plausible.

  5. Picture of The Realistic Period • The Mona Lisa shows the natural and realistic qualities of this period. There is no “fluffing” in this piece.

  6. Naturalism • Naturalism is a type of literature that applies scientific principals, works are usually earthier than other ism’s. Naturalism came about in the 19th century. • The elements of naturalism are, the characters are earthier and not as uptight, passion and instinct governs characters lives.

  7. Picture of the Natural Period • This picture shows the problems that are occurring in our society.

  8. Transcendentalism • Transcendentalism is an American literary, political, and philosophical movement of the 19th century. It was “an original relation to the universe”. • The elements are anything supper political or religious, or comparing anything radically.

  9. Picture of the Transcendentaistic Period • The bird shows freedom in our society and from the political aspects.
