WAOL Blackboard to ANGEL • Phase One: July 08 through March 09 • Everything currently supported by WAOL moved from Blackboard to ANGEL • Training focused on experienced Blackboard users who are moving to ANGEL • Continue to use existing WAOL processes (WAOL ID numbers, Intent to Teach forms, etc.)

WAOL Blackboard to ANGEL • Phase Two: March 09 through June 09 • New services from WAOL • Implement individual college domains and admin access • Setting up domains • Testing admin access and branding • Training for college admins • College admin tools and admin group on WAOL Council • All training in ANGEL

  6. Roles and Relationships The old WAOL: • Colleges enroll students, and manage teaching and learning • WAOL uses tight business rules and automation to manage the technology for large numbers with a small centralized staff

The Strategic Technology Plan http://www.sbctc.edu/college/_g-strategictechplan.aspx Most strategic plans have many goals; this plan has only one: to mobilize technology to increase student success. • Strategy I: Create a single, system-wide suite of online teaching and learning tools that provides all Washington students with easy access to “anywhere, anytime” learning.

  10. WAOL ANGEL Overview • Hosted by ANGEL Learning • Single installation shared among our schools • Accounts and classrooms for all schools go into the same “bucket” • Access accounts and courses through any of the 20+ custom domains http://angel.waol.org = http://angel.pencol.edu

  11. Grouping Information in ANGEL • Domains  - give you control over branding: themes and other domain-wide content. • Accounts - placed in ANGEL Account Groups - one per college, plus WAOL.  • Courses -  in your  ANGEL ‘School’

  12. WAOL to ANGEL Integration • Accounts, enrollments, empty course shells, sent to ANGEL from college SMS, with WAOL service providing the ‘glue’. Many parts here: • Depends on Degree Audit project • Schedule: pilots for Summer, then offered to all schools • College responsibilities – maintain configuration info, more administrative work • Batch enrollment for other non-SMS accounts and courses • User Authentication: LDAP, SSO

Spring 09 Changes • Accounts - WAOL starts moving accounts to School Account Groups, a few schools at a time • Courses – WAOL starts moving Courses into ANGEL Schools (private courses only) • Batch Enrollments and Accounts - ANGEL tool- aiming for mid-March release • SQL Query Manager - SQL language – power tool

  14. Summer 09 Changes • Colleges may manage all accounts and courses in their own domain – except WAOL Shared • ANGEL 7.4? • SMS Integration Service

  15. How Colleges Can Use WAOL ANGEL WAOL ID Process WAOL will continue to support existing WAOL ID number processes for shared courses and for any college that wants WAOL to manage its courses. Necessary for shared courses • WAOL ID number • Intent to Teach form • WAOL creates classrooms and accounts • Users will be in college Account Group so college can see and manage them • College can have custom domain and branding

How Colleges Can Use WAOL ANGEL College-Managed Colleges can manage their own accounts and classrooms using standard tools in their own domain and with their own admin access Will use WAOL ID for shared courses • No WAOL ID number • College admin creates, manages and supports users and classrooms in own Account Group • College has its own domain and branding • Enrollment Wizard • Test Spring 09; implement Summer 09

How College Can Use WAOL ANGEL • Full Integration Colleges will be able to fully integrate with WAOL ANGEL—Data goes from college SMS to WAOL database to ANGEL • All courses, all students • ANGEL contract allows us to pay for active users only • Possibly through data collected for Degree Audit • Piloting Summer 09

End User Support • Tier 1 Can’t log in, browser issues, how-to use ANGEL, etc. • Colleges, WAOL , and Presidium Help Desks • http://www.waol.org/general_info/help_desk.aspx • Colleges provide support for users in its Account Group • WAOL office M-F 8:00 to 5:00, email and toll-free number, faculty support and training • Presidium 24x7, toll-free telephone, email, chat, and knowledge base for all users • One common phone number and script for Presidium services developed as a group • If colleges want their own Presidium phone number, branding and script, they will need to pay additional fees (~$12,000/year); SBCTC will continue to pay for the user support.

  35. End User Support • Tier 3 system or hosting issues, software issues, codes, email settings • If it is an issue of policy or global settings in WAOL ANGEL, then WAOL Admin handles it. The issue might require advice of WAOL Council Admin Group • If it is an issue of software or hosting, then create a ticket with ANGEL Support

  36. Service Level Agreement • Draft ready for discussion • Between SBCTC and each college for use of WAOL ANGEL • Spells out responsibilities and service levels • Spells out escalation path

  37. Getting Started 1. Set up a domain http://www.waol.org/faculty_and_staff/angelDomain.aspx After the domain is set up, the college gets admin access and documentation.

  38. ANGEL Online Admin Training • Write to Connie Broughton cbroughton@sbctc.edu and identify person who will take ANGEL online admin training. SBCTC has paid for one person per college. Classes begin: • February 9 • February 23 • March 9 • March 23 • Every two weeks after that

ANGEL Implementation Consultation • Set up your domain and get documentation from WAOL • Complete online admin training and create an ANGEL support center account (SBCTC contract pays for one per college.) • Plan with appropriate people on your campus. • Tell WAOL when you want to begin to use your eight hours with ANGEL. WAOL will manage the queue for ANGEL. cbroughton@sbctc.edu • ANGEL requires 30 days notice to begin.

  40. Next Steps and Questions • First meeting of the Admin Group will be directly after the next WAOL Council meeting. • February 23 from 11:00 to noon in Elluminate. • First agenda item is the discussion of the Service Level Agreement draft • Questions?
