  1. How to Use A Mirrorless Camera?

  2. Purchasing a new professional camera is the first step to fulfilling your passion.

  3. You must have already done your research on the best mirrorless camera for beginners. And must be excited about starting your journey with a dslm camera. So, let us get you up to speed with the things you need to know.

  4. The Mode Dial: Every single dslm camerais equipped with one. They include the full manual mode where you can tweak everything from shutter speed to aperture. It is definitely an advanced level setting and should only be used if you are utterly confident about your photography skills. For the intermediate level photographer it is better if you start of with the Shutter or AP mode.

  5. If you are a beginner you might want to start of with the Program mode. It allows you to tinker with both shutter speed and aperture to get the best balance. Some cameras will provide specialized modes to allow various other alterations. So here is the low down on the important functions and what they do:

  6. Image Sensor – The type of image sensors has an impact on the focal length of a lens. There are different types of image sensors. Most DSLM cameras have an APS-C sensor. Some have the Micro Four thirds sensor, like the Lumix mirrorless camerarange and some have the full-frame sensor. It is best you get well versed with which sensor your camera uses.

  7. Shutter Speed – Knowing this is essential if you want to capture moving shots and get the right capture. Whether you get a frozen shot, or a blur induced moving effect shot is decided by this. This is one of the three parts of the exposure triangle, determining how much light is let in. Slower shutter speeds should ideally be used with tripods.

  8. Aperture – This is very important, especially for capturing portraits. It helps in keeping objects that you want to focus on in focus. Along with Shutter Speed and ISO, this makes up the exposure triangle. Slow down the shutter speed or use a larger aperture for better lowlight photography.

  9. High Dynamic Range- Very useful when you shoot in a setting where there are multiple levels of light. It captures at different exposure levels to allow you to get the optimum exposure for your photograph. ISO – Use the lowest possible ISO setting to get the proper exposure and depth of field and motion blur/freeze you are hoping for. Usually the automatic setting of the camera for ISO should suffice.

  10. White Balance – You can get pictures that look somewhat off colour even in the best dslm camera. This is an indication that your camera’s white balance has to be adjusted to off set the ambient light. Refer to some of the preset white balance settings in your camera, they usually have the options you are looking for. One of the best mirrorless camera for beginners is the Lumix G7. You should find it quite easy to use the settings on this or any other camera from the Lumix mirrorless camera range. So go out and explore your camera!
