  1. Review for Quiz Section 8.1-8.2

  2. Quiz Review • Suppose you invest $15000 at an annual interest rate of 2.5%. How much is your investment worth after fifteen years if it is compounded quarterly? • Suppose you invest $22,500 at an annual interest rate of 2.125% compounded continuously. How much is your investment worth after seven years? • A student wants to save $6000 in five years. How much would have to be invested if it is compounded monthly at 4.8% interest?

  3. Graph. Label the y-intercept. How do you know, without graphing, whether the equation represents growth or decay?

  4. Write an exponential model for each situation. Then, answer the question. • The price of a new home is $210,000. The value of the home appreciates 2% each year. How much will the home be worth in ten years? • A new car that sells for $25,000 depreciates 22% each year. How much will the car be worth in 5 years?

  5. In Lake Derf, there are currently 32 alligators. The gator population is increasing at an annual rate of 17%. How many gators do you predict will be in Lake Derf when their girls graduate from high school in 12 years?

  6. The equation represents the bear population in a certain region x years after 2006. • What is the significance of the 420 in the equation? • What is the significance of the 1.02 in the equation?

  7. The half-life of a radioactive substance is the time it takes for half of the material to decay. Arsenic-74 is used to locate brain tumors. It has a half-life of 17.5 days. Write an exponential function for a 90-mg sample. Use the function to find the amount remaining after 6 days.

  8. Solve each equation.
